I bought this for Daniel Boyd's "Strangest Dreams: Invasion of the Space Preachers" which is the ultimate in low-budget, sci-fi films. In some ways it's nothing but cheese, but it's good cheese! "Space Daze" wasn't so hot... it was like the makers of that movie were trying to hard to surpass the B-movie rating, but on a miniscule budget. "Strangest Dreams", however, accepted the B-movie status and made the most of it.

I'm not sure why everyone is dissecting this movie. Its not Shakespeare people! This movie is nothing more than an entertaining thriller. Sebastian (Kevin Bacon) plays a genius scientist who uses himself as a guinea pig when his science team successfully figure out how to bring back animals who are made invisible. Sebastian and his team in a meeting with the Pentagon fail to tell them that they have figured out how to bring animals back from invisbility. In other words, Sebastian want to keep that knowledge and power to himself despite the government funding his research. Sebastian then volunteers to become invisible as the first human guinea pig. Sebastian is successfully made invisible after nearly dying on the table, but once his viatals are stablized, the team is unable to bring him back to normal. Days and weeks pass then all hell breaks lose. The movie clearly explains why Sebastian goes crazy but everyone posting here is questioning it. After Sebastian's team fail to bring him back to normal and he is locked in the facility, he starts to lose his mind, conscience, morals, everthing. Get it? Hollow Man. Anyway it's the affects of the invisibility serum that causes psychosis which I thought is clearly explained in the film. After Sebastian sneaks away from the facility they warn Sebastian. In his anger he kills a dog in the facility and that's when Elisabeth Shue and Josh Brolin decide to tell the Pentagon and the rest of the team finds out the Pentagon doesn't know about Sebastian becoming invisible. At this point Sebastian is completely psychotic and starts killing everyone who knows (the science team) to stay invisible. I watch this movie every time I catch it on HBO and I'm buying the DVD when I get a chance. I enjoy this movie and of course watching Josh Brolin. Elisabeth Shue plays Sebastian's former girlfriend and the one who saves the day in the film without giving it away too much. I love this movie and the great performances in it and don't get what all the negative comments are about. If you want to see a thrilling movie that gets more fast paced and exciting as it nears its climax then I recommend this movie. I love it.

In Paul Verhoeven's appropriately shallow Hollow Man, Kevin Bacon plays a bad-boy egotistical scientist who heads up a double-secret government team experimenting with turning life-forms invisible. How do we know he's a bad boy? Because he (a) wears a leather overcoat, (b) compares himself to God, (c) drives a sports car, and (d) spies on his comely next-door neighbor while eating Twinkies. Sadly, this is the most character development anyone gets in this undernourished action/sci-fi thriller, which boasts some amazing special effects and some amazingly ridiculous plot twists. After experimenting rather ruthlessly on a menagerie of lab animals, Bacon finally cracks the code that will turn the invisible gorillas, dogs, and so on, back into their visible forms. Does it work on humans? Faster than you can say "six degrees," Mr. Bacon appoints himself human guinea pig, strapping down for an injection of fluorescent-colored serum. Thanks to some phenomenal, seamless and Oscar-worthy computer effects, Bacon is indeed rendered invisible, organ by organ, vein by vein. And what's the first thing you'd do if you were invisible? Why, spy on your female coworkers in the bathroom and molest your comely next-door neighbor, of course! Soon, Bacon is thoroughly psychotic, and it's up to Elisabeth Shue (Bacon's coworker and ex-girlfriend) and hunky Josh Brolin (her current snuggle bunny) to defeat the invisible man, who's picking off the science team one by one. You'd think this would be a prime opportunity for copious amounts of cheesy sex and aggressive violence--which Verhoeven served up so well and so exuberantly in Starship Troopers and Basic Instinct--but if anything, the director seems to tone down the proceedings, and really, who wants a muted Paul Verhoeven movie? Shue (who got top billing and a bad haircut to boot) and Brolin (who, yes, does take off his shirt at least once) generate little heat, and while Bacon does give an effective, primarily voice-oriented performance, his character is so underdeveloped that, well, you can see right through him. --Mark Englehart

As a big syfy fan I loved the Lost Room. It was one of those movies you just can't pause. Once I finished the first part ( it's a three part mini series) I had to pop in the second one asap! With every scene you discover something new that keeps you wanting more. The plot is unique and unpredictable. The characters are real and easy to relate to. The concept is so one of a kind there is no way to guess what's coming next. I highly recommend the Lost Room DVD it's a steal for under . Great gift idea for all the syfy fans on your list.

Beginning with Krause, superb casting makes The Lost Room constantly engaging, even when its logic borders on nonsensical. Clearly intended as a potential series, it leads to a let-down ending where too many questions remain unanswered, but getting there is a blast. And while the smart, beautiful Julianna Margulies seems cast adrift as Miller's bland love interest (and a member of the object-seeking underground), the story grows increasingly intriguing with the introduction of a wealthy father (Kevin Pollak) obsessed with curing his cancerous son with the objects; an unstable nebbish (Peter Jacobsen) who's been driven nearly mad by his visits to the lost room; a devious doctor (Dennis Christopher) who falls in with a group of religious zealots convinced that the lost room leads to God; and various supporting characters (including comedian/monologist Margaret Cho) and subplots that lead you to believe this is all leading to something fantastic. That The Lost Room fails to deliver on its early promise doesn't mean it's a waste of time; it's got the same clever appeal as Heroes and Lost, and one can easily see how it might've made a more rewarding long-form series. Ninja Scroll is also presented in the controversial "wide screen" version even though the original film was in a 4:3 aspect ratio. All in all, Manga has given short shrift to the UMD format, bringing out barely adequate releases.

Geneon, on the other hand, has produced superior products in their UMD releases. Akira and Appleseed (both Geneon releases) act and feel like their big brother DVDs. Interesting menus, audio tracks in both the original Japanese and English, and English subtitles. Picture quality is razor sharp, the way it should be for the PSP's superior screen.

The Akira UMD has very good stereo imaging, and a crisp image. If you are a fan of this landmark anime you will be pleased by the excellent presentation that Geneon has given it in the UMD format.

Polymorph (Special Edition) Review

"Polymorph" is an obscure gem from the middle of J.R. Bookwalter's career. The film concerns itself with a rather convoluted plot centered around a den of drug dealers interacting with four teenagers camping in the woods while both groups are being pursued by a silly creature from space. Some of the special effects are very amusing (although evidently they have been enhanced for DVD, which makes me wonder what they looked like in the original VHS release), and one matte painting in particular is amazingly bad.

Beyond all that, the movie is actually immensely watchable. The acting varies in quality, with Tom Hoover probably giving the best overall performance as "Carlos" the evil drug lord of ambiguous sexual orientation. I very much enjoyed the "making of" feature, the audio commentary tracks (of which there are two), and the other extras. This film is not as enjoyable in a campy way as Bookwalter's earlier treatises on cheese like "Chickboxer," but it is a fun movie that I recommend.

This is the one that should've been director Mel Brooks' comeback film. It comes very close to recapturing the magic of the old comedies, but again, there's too many stale jokes & juvenile levels of humor marring the proceedngs. Still, "Spaceballs"--which parodies several landmark sci-fi films, particularly "Star Wars"--has some very funny moments in it, courtesy of the cast. Brooks plays roles on the good & evil side of the "Schwartz" coin--that of the dapper but despicable President Skroob and the dwarfed movie-merchandise peddler Yogurt, sort of a Jewish Yoda. Next generation comic talents John Candy & Rick Moranis have a field day as the half man-half dog alien Barfolomew (Candy), and the malevolent miniature villain Dark Helmet (Moranis). Luke Skywalker & Han Solo are merged into one hapless hero, Lonestar (a smirkingly amusing Bill Pullman), while newcomer Daphne Zuniga plays the feisty spoiled Princess Vespa, much as Carrie Fisher played Leia. Even Brooks film veterans Dom DeLuise & Dick Van Patten lend a hand as the disgusting mobster Pizza the Hut (Dom; get the joke name?), and the slightly kooky King of Druidia (Van Patten).
The film's probably at its best when doing satirical in-jokes; you can't help but snigger at the absurd invention of "instant cassettes", the "Spaceballs" merchandising running gag, or when Lonestar complains: "Just what we need..a Druish Princess!" With Candy replying: "Funny, she doesn't look Druish!"
"Spaceballs" is what it is: An amusing & occasionally fun sci-fi spoof. It's just a shame it became another example of Brooks' then wobbly track record at the box office.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (with Movie Cash) Review

I watched this movie when it originally aired on TV, and it inspired me to want to read the book. I had only seen the Disney movie before, but not since I was a little kid so I didn't really remember it. The book ended up being really different, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying this movie. The Stanley Kubrick version of The Shining doesn't have much to do with the book it's based on either, but I still love it. If you can watch this version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea as it's own thing, it's actually really good. I actually always thought it was one of the best made-for-tv movies, and I wanted to see it again but they never reaired it. Finally it came out on DVD after YEARS of searching for it, and I still like it.

I don't understand all the negative reviews. I'm probably going to get attacked for this, but I actually like this better than the Disney movie, which I watched again not long after this aired. The Disney movie feels to me like a travelogue and has minimal story. This version has a better story and a more climactic ending. There's more happening. It's darker, edgier. There's more character development, and a couple new characters (Nemo's daughter, played by Mia Sara), which may make some people mad but I thought it added to the story. One of the criticisms I've heard people make of Jules Verne is that he wasn't very good at writing women. All the same themes and ideas are here, some of them are just presented in a different way. The special effects aren't as good as I remembered, they look kind of cheap, but halfway through the movie you stop noticing because you're drawn into the story.

Anyway, give it a chance. You may be pleasantly surprised.

The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms / Them! (Double Feature) Review

When one compiles a list of the great sci-fi films of the fifties, that list must include "Them!" and "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms." Besides being made during the same decade, the two films have so much in common:

1) They were both produced and released by Warner Brothers.
2) Both feature actors in supporting roles as the "old scientist," Edmund Gwenn in "Them" and Cecil Kellaway in "Beast", respectively.
3) Both films have then-state-of-the-art special effects, though "Beast" sports the best with the handiwork of the legendary Ray Harryhausen on his first "solo" project.
4) The "monsters" in both films were the result of atomic bomb testing, a plot device stemmed from the fear fostered in many following the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
5) Both films have the necessary female "expert" to "equal things out, Joan Weldon ("Them!") and Paula Raymond ("Beast"). Weldon even gets to do the required scream when saved from the marauding ant hordes.

What's fun about both is that viewers get to see some novice performers who would later make their mark on television or the big screen. It is true, I've always been more a fan of Star Wars as a Trekkie. "But having a good eye-popping, adult-friendly Star Trek could, I have to reconsider their position. Since I'm a "Johnny Come Lately" to the Doctor Who series, I wanted to get at least one episode featuring each actor who played the Doctor. And since this story arc includes five episodes, it seemed a good place to view Edward Troughton's Doctor. The first two of these five episodes, I have to say, were a disappointment. In fact, it only really picked up when Doctor Who finally confronted the "villian" face to face (so to speak) in the fourth episode. That's when the whole story arc came alive. Prior to that, Troughton's Doctor struck me as much too timid and cautious. But by the end, it was well worth my time. Now I want to get another episode with Edward Troughton, since one of the Amazon reviews said this was the weakest of the Troughton series.

The Best of Star Trek: The Original Series Review

This is a great way for anyone who owns the original broadcast shows as a set. CBS/Paramount assembled some really good episodes in the remastered versions. Why bother? Well, let me tell you. The remastered versions are incredibly well done. They include added exterior space shots, plus the Enterprise looks slightly darker in color - making it look more like the color of the ship on Next Generation. PLUS---and this is amazing - the artists who did all the painstaking work on this--did an excellent job adding new shots - like in "Amok Time" - on the remastered version - we see a super wide shot of Capt Kirk, Dr. McCoy and Mr. Spock walk toward the center of the meeting place---it's AMAZING!!! Love it. Plus - when we see the Enterprise shoot her weapons, the weapons are more colorful, more precise and just a heckuva lot cooler. So for anyone hesitating about buying the remastered set--- it's money well spent. Perhaps one has to be a truly truly hard-core Star Trek fan to want the newer versions, or heck, maybe you're thinking only true fans would stick with the originals - but regardless of what you decide, this "Best of" DVD is a cool way to take a peek at what the remastered versions look like. As for it's cost of - please, it's SOOO worth it.

Battlestar Galactica - a masterpiece of modern science fiction

When it announced the first time after years of speculation, there is a new mini-series Battlestar Galactica, sci-fi and TV fans of the genre were not sure if it would be interesting for the commitment. For as expensive as the original TV series had been anything but brilliant. With the production values lovable questionable, the unequal distribution and a very irregular letter was a bit "more than a pleasant diversion for fans of SF lead in Star Wars. A briefexperienced the first run in 1978 was the spectacular bathroom Galactica, 80, was followed by the password is not real. When you first said that would be a remake of the SF uneven on the biggest science-fiction television franchise in all of them, many would have laughed at us.

But we are here. After the mini-series has been promising a new season of "Battlestar Galactica" has become a cult hit, and then an international phenomenon, in each subsequent year in a rownew fans, eager to capture the drama. How the hell did that happen? In addition to producing very high scores on this new vision of Galactica, it had fallen to a great cast, great script and a very nice touch to the classic formula. Things have in my head a little, but it worked and it worked perfectly made.

DVD sales of the series Battlestar Galactica, once again demonstrated the popularity of the show with a contemporary audience, and a reorganization of the original conceptsfirst exhibition Galactica have had enough of modern thinking that the fans are connected. Hats off to the writers and stars of the new Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D. Moore, gave us the definitive science fiction television event of the decade and a new generation of TV-type stars such as Tricia Helfer and Katee Sackhoff, who won the hearts of sci-fi fans around the world.

There is talk of a new film about the original incarnation of "Battlestar Galactica" are based,but it seems terribly productive-cons, taking into account how popular the new version of the series. Why not let the franchise at the end of the new era conclude? Let It End correct. New fans do not want to see on the classic series again, I am more than satisfied with the new model unbelievable.

Despite the Cylons during the rehabilitation of the story has changed a little, and the ramp up the complexity a thousand times, the new "Battlestar Galactica" won legions of new fansfor a franchise many thought long dead, and with extras such as the spin-off project Razor (and other forthcoming films) and the upcoming prequel series Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica story continues in the pantheon of science fiction, long time resonate after the end of the series.

Godzilla [Blu-ray] Review

THE MOVIE

I will admit, THIS Godzilla is one of my favorite 'thoughtless entertainment' movies. The kind I watch when I'm exhausted and all I want is to relax with a cocktail or a cup of cappuccino and not worry about world peace or possible cosmic disasters for a while. Sure, it's not the Japanese Godzilla - it's an American movie after all - but I can't see why we shouldn't have our own Godzilla the same way the Japanese can have their own baseball and rock and roll.

I will not do a full critique of the movie - there are hundreds of excellent reviews published already so I am going to be brief. I will only state that I love Godzilla because:

- it has Matthew Broderick (Bueller?)
- it has Jean Reno (The Specialist, The DaVinci Code)
- it has (a lot of) humor
- it has most excellent visual effects, quite impressive even by 2009 standards
- it has one of the better sound tracks in a monster movie

Sure, it's not the Japanese Godzilla but, come to think of it, the Japanese Godzilla has none of the above.

THE BLU-RAY RELEASE

Of course, it's 1080p and it's an easy to notice improvement over the DVD release - I've bought both the VHS and the DVD releases prior to this one. More impressive than the picture is the sound track. The DTS-HD Master Audio it's literally a blast. It will rock your house with the proper sub-woofer.

The extras are mostly those found on the DVD edition but there are a couple of Blu-specific additions.

The Godzilla trivia game is actually fun - multiple-choice where the time it takes to pick the answer is factored into the score. A multi-player option is available for players with an Internet connection. To my surprise, this actually worked and I could play Godzilla trivia online with someone who was trying out this exotic feature at the same time I was.

The Movie-IQ option is another BD-Live powered option. It checks some online database and provides up-to-date information about the movie while watching the movie. I immediately learned, while watching the movie, that Godzilla grossed 0 million and it was released in 1998 and that, since its release in 1954 there have been 28 Godzilla/GOJIRA movies.

BD-Live also facilitated the printing of a ticket for the '2012' movie (up to ). Be VERY careful and do NOT throw away the wrapping. The back of the sticker has a code that, when typed in in a BD-Live session will have Sony email you a PDF that can be printed and becomes a 'ticket' that's valid until Dec. 31 2009.

Finally, the disk - not a second disk - includes a digital copy for the PSP. You first copy it to your PS3 hard drive and then you download it from there to the PSP - it comes with full instructions on how to proceed.

MY RATING

5 stars as a movie and 5 stars as a Blu-ray release. If you happen to own a PS3 and a PSP and you happen to want to watch '2012' before the end of 2009 this is an incredible bargain.

Godzilla [Blu-ray] Specifications

As "gigantic monster reptile attacks New York" movies go, you've got to admit that Godzilla delivers the goods, although its critical drubbing and box-office disappointment were arguably deserved. It's a shameless, uninspired crowd pleaser that's content to serve up familiar action with the advantage of really fantastic special effects, and if you expect nothing more you'll be one among millions of satisfied customers. There's really no other way to approach it--you just have to accept the fact that Independence Day creators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are unapologetic plagiarists, incapable of anything more than mindless spectacle that can play in any cinema in the world without dubbing or subtitles. The whole movie plays out like a series of highlights stolen from previous blockbusters of the 1990s; it's little more than a rehash of the Jurassic Park movies. The derivative script is so trivial that it's unworthy of comment, apart from a few choice laughs and the casting of Michael Lerner as New York's mayor, whose name is Ebert and who closely resembles a certain well-known movie critic. Perhaps that's a clever hint that this movie's essentially critic-proof. It's stupid but it's fun, and for most audiences that's a fitting definition of mainstream Hollywood entertainment. --Jeff Shannon

We saw a lot of science - fiction on television, what would happen if the earth by a giant asteroid, comet or meteorite has been made. We also heard the theories about what killed the dinosaurs. It is, of course, a superior species well adapted and highly developed. Indeedthey were much more suited for living on the surface of the planet that humans are today.
Of course, many would say that the large brain that humans have has enabled them to adapt, modify their own environment, and set up societies and civilizations which protect them from the elements, and the weather. Well, the best they can in the present period, this is true.
Still, our planet is not protected from risks coming from outer space, we are completely vulnerable and our little Biosphere could be easily drilled and destroyed something that happens outside of our world. Some say that if this happens, there is nothing we can do anyway, so we should not insist or worried.
Yes, it is a vision and a common language, but it is really wise, it was not prepared for the inevitable. The probability that something similar is happening in our lives there is probably only slight, but the chances of that happening in the currentthe next million years is more assured. Therefore it is logical to think about these things, so please consider.

Nemesis Review

An Albert Pyun production can threaten the mental stability of even the most diehard B movie fan. This director is a master of cheesy, low budget films loaded with hammy acting, molasses like pacing, and terrible scripts. As far as I know, there are only two Pyun films really worth watching: the early 1980s sword and sandal picture "The Sword and The Sorcerer" and this movie, the 1993 science fiction thriller "Nemesis." Two good movies out of a slew of stinkers doesn't mean I wouldn't watch any of his clunkers, though. If anything, a bad movie always promises to deliver a few laughs. Anyway, Pyun's name is synonymous with junk in B movie circles. Just scan some of the movie review sites on the Internet and laugh out loud at the abrasive comments aimed in Al's direction. The success of "Nemesis" eventually led to several sequels, each a victim of diminishing returns. The first one is a winner worth watching, but still contains plenty of plot holes for the discerning viewer to giggle over.
Los Angeles cop Alex Rain works hard to break up crime rings and terrorist groups. It's the year 2027, and humanity has changed quite a bit in the near future. It appears that technology dominates, with doctors capable of implanting robotic machinery directly into the human body. In 2027, you've got millions of people ambling around the country with implants, many of them more machine than human. The growing numbers and strength of these cyborgs is starting to become a real problem for the rest of humanity. Eventually, some people fed up with the increasingly metallic composition of the population form resistance groups to fight the growing cyborgs. It is Alex Rain's job to help keep the peace, and to bring in these people when they break the law. After all, killing a cyborg is still a crime since most of these creatures still possess a significant percentage of human parts. Many of Alex Rain's fellow police officers have machine implants. Actually, Rain himself has a few parts in him, too. In the future, it is just too difficult to discern who is completely human and who isn't, and it's about to get much harder. After a lengthy opening sequence that shows us how Alex ends up in retirement, the movie starts in earnest.
Rain's old boss, Farnsworth, approaches him about a new mission. The United States and Japan have decided to merge into one country (a process not unusual in the near future, according to the movie). A cyborg that worked with the police rebelled against the system and took some important information about the merger with her to Java, where she is presently hiding out while attempting to contact a terrorist organization named the Hammerheads. Rain, who has a contentious history with this sexy cyborg, must go to Java and kill her in order to retrieve this critical information. Rain reluctantly goes for reasons made obvious in the film, and soon discovers that things are not quite what they seem. It turns out that the mission Farnsworth sent Rain on is merely a cover for a much more important mission involving the fate of the planet, humanity, and the cyborgs. We don't find this out for some time, and until we do, the movie does tend to confuse the viewer. Not to worry, though, as you can content yourself with the bevy of beautiful women wearing tight skirts, some nudity, massive amounts of gunfire, and a healthy dose of bloody special effects. "Nemesis" may well rank as one of the most violent shoot 'em ups made in the last few years. The movie contains elements that reminded me of both "The Terminator" and "The Matrix," although I wouldn't go so far as to say that "Nemesis" serves a bridge between those two movies. I will say that if you love films overflowing with huge guns and a super high body count, you will love this Pyun picture.
The plot zips along at mach speed, but the acting often fails to engage. Lead star Oliver Gruner, a French actor who must have once been on the same "up and coming action star" list as Jean Claude Van Damme, tanks as the tough yet caring cop Alex Rain. I suspect Gruner graduated from the Joe Dallesandro School of acting because his wooden expressions to some extent resemble those of the co-star of "Blood for Dracula" and "Flesh for Frankenstein." The female stars take second fiddle, and are usually on screen to serve as eye candy for the mostly young male audience that would watch a film like this one. At least "Nemesis" gives us the ever reliable Tim Thomerson in the role of Farnsworth, along with late B movie star Brion James as one of Farnsworth's sidekicks. James's pseudo German accent alone makes this movie worth watching. In fact, I doubt I would have even watched this movie if I hadn't known beforehand that Thomerson and James appeared in it.
The DVD gives us several extras, including a trailer and some behind the scenes action about the film. The extras list said there were a few television spots, but when I selected that option, I got more behind the scenes footage. At least the transfer is decent, although it isn't as good as it should be. Colors occasionally look washed out, and there are a few rips on the print. Overall, I give a hearty round of applause to Albert Pyun. It is going to be tougher for me to criticize this guy after watching "Nemesis." The movie not only entertains, it is entertaining enough to watch again. This picture just goes to show that even a hack filmmaker can turn out a great treat every now and again.

Nemesis Overview

In the industrial wasteland just outside of Los Angeles, circa 2027, there's a covert war raging between the cyborgs and the humans. "86.5% is still human," insists superagent Alex (Jean-Claude Van Damme wannabe Olivier Gruner, complete with kickboxing credentials and thick Euro-warble), but as the cyborg conspiracy builds around him he discovers that humanity is more than simply a matter of flesh and blood. Borrowing elements from Blade Runner, The Terminator, Escape from New York, and The Road Warrior, and looking ahead to digital "data couriers" of Johnny Mnemonic, director Albert Pyun turns the sci-fi spy story into an engine for a visceral thrill ride of sleekly designed action sequences driven by a dancing camera and a breakneck editing rhythm. It's a glorious triumph of style over substance, the vigorous pace leaving the story far behind and nimble set pieces belying a tiny budget with ambitious action choreography and impressive displays of property damage. Apart from a few clumsy special effects at the conclusion and the requisite collection of scene-chewing performances, Nemesis is a thoroughly entertaining piece of sci-fi trash, a classic example of cinematic energy overcoming the obstacles of plot. --Sean Axmaker

Every time you see a vampire in the film, is of little furry companions accompanied him on his release, surrounded in the night. If a vampire has a quick exit, which has often make one of those too. Unidentified Flying Oddball Review

Based off the Mark Twain novel `A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court', Unidentified Flying Oddball (1979) aka The Spaceman and King Arthur, may not have been one of the more popular live action Disney films of the past, but I liked it for a number of reason which I'll talk about later...the film, written by Don Tait (Hell's Angels '69, The Apple Dumpling Gang), was directed by Russ Mayberry, who primarily worked in the medium of television directing on shows like "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie", "That Girl", "The Brady Bunch", "The Partridge Family", "The Rockford Files", along with many others, but did find time to do a few films, including this one. Starring in the film is Dennis Dugan (The Howling, Problem Child, Happy Gilmore), Sheila White (Confessions from a Holiday Camp), Ron Moody, whom many will recognize as the dastardly character Fagin in the 1968 film Oliver!, and Jim Dale, a fixture in the British `Carry On...' film series. Also appearing is Kenneth More (Sink the Bismarck!), John Le Mesurier (I'm All Right Jack, Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?), Rodney Bewes (Jabberwocky), and Pat Roach, whom you may have never heard of, but surely have seen in any one of his villain roles like in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - he played two roles in that film, one being the big Sherpa in the bar and another as the mechanic/brawler, the character of Lippe (he fought Bond in the health spa) in the James Bond film Never Say Never Again (1983), the chief guard in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), and skeleton masked General Kael in Willow (1988), to name a few.

The story begins as we see a group at NASA discussing a new project featuring a shuttle called Stardust that has the ability to travel faster than any previous ship. There's a bunch of scientific mumbo jumbo presented, but the gooberment officials are reluctant to approve sending humans up in an untested craft (it's an election year), so scientific brain boy Tom Trimble (Dugan) is tasked to build a humanoid robot to pilot the ship, which he does (in his own image), but the robot, named Hermes, was apparently made too human, and is afraid to make the 30 year trip. Trimble, in an effort to convince Hermes that everything will be all right, gets caught in the shuttle during an accidental launch, and both end up in orbit. The ship does what it was designed to do (traveling faster than the speed of light), subsequently travels back in time, and, on returning to Earth, Trimble discovers he's in 6th century England, specifically King Arthur's court at Camelot! Trimble meets a local girl named Alisande (White), and she believes him to be some sort of monster (in his spacesuit), despite his protests. Soon Trimble is captured by the rotter Sir Mordred (Gale), taken to Camelot and sentenced to death. It's around this time Trimble learns of Mordred's treacherous plans to overthrow King Arthur (More), and now must use his intelligence and wits to not only keep himself alive, but also prevent the despicable Mordred and his cronies from their foul machinations through.

First off I just want to say it felt good to watch a family friendly film that doesn't insinuate toilet humor into the story to get laughs...not that I mind that kind of thing, but it seems so much more prevalent nowadays for these types of films, geared towards general audiences, to rely on techniques of the lowest common denominator to try and entertain. As far as the story goes, it was very straightforward, and moved along well. Dugan seemed a decent choice for the role of Trimble (I guess Dean Jones and Kurt Russell, both frequent stars in Disney's mid 60's/early 70's live action pics, were busy on other projects), and he does well presenting pre-MacGyver like character who uses his intelligence to get out of sticky situations. As far as the others, my favorite was Dale as Sir Mordred. He did a wonderful job bringing his character to life, and could have easily been transposed to more serious films with respect to Arthurian legend despite being a bit over the top at times (what good villain isn't?) As far as the character of Merlin, played by Moody...I thought he also did very well, but the way the character was written seemed to go against most of what I think I know in the respect the Merlin here was not a very nice guy...and what was up with his hair? It looked like they shaved the top of Moody's head, giving him a horseshoe hair pattern, leaving a handle-like tuft at the very top....very weird...another character I enjoyed was that of Sir Gawain, played by Le Mesurier. The role wasn't very big, but incorporated a sort of subtle humor (a slight touch of that droll, British humor) that complemented the sequences he appeared in very well. The odd man out was that of King Arthur, played by More. He did all right, but he lacked the majestic qualities I normally associate with the character. It's not like he ruined the movie or anything, but he just seemed a little out of place. The sets and costumes were very good, relaying better than average production values, along with most of the special effects, although there is a sequence with Trimble in a flying rocket chair where the wires are plainly visible, but again, this wasn't something that ruined the film for me. My favorite sequence was the magnetized sword bit and I also liked how, through a good part of the film, Trimble was perceived by the 6th century inhabitants as not so much a dangerous threat, but sort of a pitiful oddity, one that might be better put out of his misery. I'm unsure how kids today, what with their Harry Potters and such, would receive a film like this, but for those of us who grew up in the 70's and 80's, this is a welcome trip back to simpler times.

The widescreen (1.85:1) picture, enhanced for 16 X 9 TVs, looks sharp, but there are some very minor signs of age deterioration in the film (nothing to get too hung up on). The Dolby Digital mono audio comes through clearly, and there are English subtitles available. There are no other special features.

Unidentified Flying Oddball Overview

Mark Twain's wit was oft demonstrated in his short stories and novels, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court certainly qualifies as one of his most popular. The tale's so well-liked that various renditions--including a musical comedy, an animated Bugs Bunny version, and two kid pics--have been turned into films and telefilms (many of which should be considered "inspired by" instead of straight translations). This Disney film takes the basics of Twain's charmer and turns it into the story of a scientist whose twin-looking humanoid will be the first to try out a faster-than-the-speed-of-light rocket ship. When the humanoid becomes afraid, the scientist climbs on board to comfort it and the ship accidentally rockets off--and into King Arthur's Camelot. Dennis Dugan, an underrated comic actor (best remembered as Richie Brockelman introduced on The Rockford Files), is the likable lead, as well as his robotic alter ego. Ron Moody is a wickedly creepy Merlin, Kenneth More is an elegant, if older, King Arthur, and English actress Sheila White (Oliver!) is a sweet Alisande. Despite its 1979 production date, the film has a surprisingly timeless look. Certainly, the low-budget technology can't compare to today's CGI miracles, but this film is more about ingenuity and resourcefulness, and it gets those messages across well. --N.F. Mendoza

Universal Soldier Overview

Before they made a mountain of money as the creators of Independence Day and Godzilla, director Roland Emmerich and screenwriter Dean Devlin teamed up for this action flick disguised as a science fiction thriller. Muscle hunks Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren play embattled Vietnam soldiers who killed each other in combat and are revived 25 years later as semi-android "UniSols" in a high-tech army of the near future. Their memories were supposedly wiped clean, but flashbacks occur to remind them of their bitter hatred (Lundgren committed wartime atrocities; Van Damme had tried to stop him), and the warriors resume their tenacious battle while a journalist (Ally Walker) uncovers the truth about the secret UniSol program. With energy to spare, the standard action sequences are adequate for anyone with a short attention span. When the film was actually released in India, there were only a very meagre number of people owning television sets or for that matter even VCRs in the entire city of Mangalore. I saw it on the big screen and was immeadiately hooked to the film. The popularity spread through word of mouth and it ran for not less than thirty days. That was a record for any hollywood movie including Star Wars. Eventhough, when viewed today, in 2009, youngsters might complain that the theme feels rather ludicrous (the concept of Manhattan island becoming a maximum security penetentiary in the year 1997, seperated from the rest of the United States and patrolled by highly trained cops.) Kurt Russell plays 'Snake Plisken' a decorated Vet, gone renegade, who is sent on a mission into Manhattan island to rescue the President of the United States, when Airforce One crashes into New York.Donald Pleasence plays the President, held hostage by a criminal named 'the Duke' of New York (Issac Hayes).John Carpenter's crisp direction,the gripping score and the low-light cinematography will surely have you at the edge of your seat. Each and every character is well written and portrayed. Ernest Borgnine as a cabby, Harry Dean Stanton as 'Brain', Adrienne Barbeau, another Carpenter regular, portrays Brain's girl-friend, Maggie. All give terrific performances. Many of my friends have critisized the film as a mere two dimentional pulp. But probably they are comparing it to modern day special effects wizardry in films like The Terminator etc..But I still maintain that in the 1980s there was no other film in the futuristic category which earned it such a mass hysteric CULT following that has not waned even to this day. Even John Carpenter could not come up with a good follow-up movie. 'Escape from L.A', is nothing even remotely near 'Escape from New York'. The film even created a whole new generation of Kurt Russel fans, which significantly benifitted Mr.Russell's career graph. I strongly recommend the film to all die-hard fans of John Carpenter or Kurt Russell. Even if you are not a fan, every time you see this DVD from Amazon, you will get the urge to watch it again and again. The images in the restored version are really good. The sound quality also has been re-masterd, from the original print. If you have a good home-theater with either Dolby 5.1 or DTS, then this film is a treat to watch. You will wonder,"Gosh, the film ended so quickly." That is the magic of this film. 'The Duke of New York", Issac Hayes travels in a special Cadillac fitted with Chandeliars in the front. Plus he has his own theme, which plays ever time the car rolls into frame.Out-Right, Top-Class Entertainment that can be viewed any number of times. Take my word for it. You won't regret buying the DVD. 100% POSITIVE. A word of caution to other buyers from India: A cheaper DVD marketed by an Indian company is available in India, from any retail outfit. But folks, you ARE going to be highly dissapointed because the DVD has been made from an Indian Censored print of the 1980s. The length is way short and all the good scenes are missing. So my advice to Indian buyers is, if you can access, buy the Amazon DVD. It is in a class of its own.

Andromeda Season 1 Collection 2 (Episode 106-110) Review

Andromeda, as a series, has hit it's high point and has been running down since the second season. However, the first season remains FANTASTIC. With Robert Hewitt Wolfe writing the series, and the phenomenal acting of the cast, you can expect great lines delivered with a lot of cool and style. Notably, Keith Hamilton Cobb as the [tough guy] of the Universe and Lexa Doig doing triple duty in every episode as the ship, hologram, and computer, all of which she manages to imbue with their own personality. I single them out for excellency, but the entire cast is good in this show. I recommend buying the DVDs right up to season 2 episode 12, which was the last one featuring Wolfe as head writer, and the beginning of the show's downturn.
The commentary could be better, with (I believe) Alan Eastman boring us with show facts that are blatantly obvious to anyone who's watched - But Kevin Sorbo pipes up when he's allowed to, and actually has some good stories to tell. His antics in the gag reel are by themselves enough reason to buy this DVD :-P

Andromeda Season 1 Collection 2 (Episode 106-110) Overview

Based on an idea by Gene Roddenberry, Andromeda wears its debt to Star Trek on its sleeve, recalling the best sci-fi of Roddenberry's heyday. Kevin Sorbo (ex-Hercules) plays Captain Dylan Hunt, the sympathetically flawed idealist in command of the Andromeda Ascendant, a massive 1.4-kilometer-long starship of the now-disbanded Systems Commonwealth. The fall of civilization has meant that although it ought to be a relic it remains the zenith of technological advancement. Episodes 6 to 10 make up this collection.
"Angel Dark, Demon Bright": Time travel is always a sci-fi series staple, but Andromeda needs it more than any of them. Any method (excuse!) to revisit Dylan's own time is explored, and "Angel Dark, Demon Bright" is therefore an important episode for two reasons. We see just how badly the Commonwealth had it coming in an enormous space battle; and we also perceive how potentially dangerous Trance is. Pruning the branches of time as easily as her plants, she's clearly a conundrum waiting to explode.
"The Ties That Blind": The title is a dual reference to aspects of faith. On the one hand there's Rev's devout following of the Way, which unwittingly obscures certain truths from him; on the other hand there's the belief that blood is thicker than water, which severely confuses the relationship Beka has with her long-lost con-artist brother Rafe (Cameron Daddo). There's a lot of art imitating life in this episode, with the Restorian's tactics clearly mirroring contemporary religious conflicts.
"The Banks of the Lethe": Proving that all's fair in love and war, this episode demonstrates the familial possibilities of syndicated TV. Firstly, Sorbo's real-life wife plays Dylan's fiancée, Sara. Secondly, the story was originally touted to Star Trek: Voyager. It's another time-travel quickie (told you they were important), in which a touching reunion for the Sorbos is made possible thanks to a botched experiment in Harper's lab. This installment is also distinguished for featuring some of the most surreal humor in dealing with time travel since Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.
"A Rose in the Ashes": Sometimes diplomacy just doesn't work. On the planet Arazia, Dylan implores the government to join his Commonwealth. Deemed traitors for suggesting it, he and Rommie's "living doll" incarnation are sent to a harsh prison planet. This was the first show to utilize exterior locations, which makes for a welcome change. The same is also true about seeing Lexa Doig in a leather-studded bikini top and disco pants.
"All Neptune's Great Oceans": Macbeth is paraphrased in the title of this spotlight episode for Tyr. The endlessly surly muscle man is accused of assassinating a visiting president. The crew sleuth out clues and red herrings, making this a watered-down whodunit in the now well-established sci-fi tradition. --Paul Tonks

It's a challenge to make a movie that appeals to people like myself, who were around to see the beginnings of Marvel and the X-Men in the 1960's, in addition to other generations who've followed the characters in the decades since. And then it's not so easy to appeal to those who've never heard of Marvel or the X-Men.

I did a little research, and confirmed my guess. The movies reflect a combination of different lineups over the decades.

The original team consisted of Professor X, Cyclops, Angel, Beast, Ice Man, and "Marvel Girl" (Jean Grey.) Beast looked more human, in that he originally didn't have the blue fur.

In 1975, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, Wolverine and others were introduced.

There were even more changes, and different "factions" of X-men in the past 40+ years. In the 1990's, the X-men started wearing the suits that are seen in the X-Men movies.

It's difficult to follow the movie with so many X-men. This is especially true in X-Men, The Last Stand. I can't help wonder why they didn't limit the sheer number of characters. They could have chosen to introduce them in future X-Men movies.

The first X-Men movie introduces Wolverine and Rogue... They have a very dynamic and dramatic relationship... a friendship rather than a romantic relationship. Rogue can literally suck the life out of people, while Wolverine has amazing recuperative powers, coming back from the Brink of Death.

We see some of Magneto's background, and perhaps get a better understanding of what made him the villain of the movie. We see his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and witness their plot to turn normal humans into mutants. It's a great story.

X2 depicts more insights into Wolverine's origins, and introduces General Stryker, a human villain, intent on exterminating all mutants. We see the powerful Magneto reduced to a helpless, tortured prisoner, and his eventual escape. We see the unlikely alliance between the Evil Mutants and the X-Men, and so much more.

Again, another great movie.

X-Men Collection (X-Men/X2 - X-Men United - Widescreen Edition) Overview

X-Men
It's a rare comic-book movie that doesn't fall over its cape introducing all the characters, and X-Men is the exception, dropping us into a world that is closer to our own than Batman's Gotham City, but is still home to super-powered heroes and villains. Opening in high seriousness with paranormal activity in a World War II concentration camp and a senatorial inquiry into the growing "mutant problem", Bryan Singer's film sets up a complex background with economy and establishes vivid, strange characters well before we get to the fun. There's Halle Berry flying and summoning snowstorms, James Marsden zapping people with his "optic beams," Rebecca Romijn-Stamos shape-shifting her blue naked form, and Ray Park lashing out with his Toad-tongue. The big conflict is between Patrick Stewart's Professor X and Ian McKellen's Magneto, super-powerful mutants who disagree about their relationship with ordinary humans, but the characters we're meant to identify with are Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Anna Paquin's Rogue. There are in-jokes enough to keep comics fans engaged, but it feels more like a science-fiction movie than a superhero picture. --Kim Newman
X2: X-Men United
X2 does a fine job of picking up where X-Men left off, giving fans more of what they liked the first time around. Under the serious-minded custody of returning director Bryan Singer, the second film of this Marvel comics franchise ups the ante on Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and the superhero mutants from the first film, pitting them against a mutant-hating scientist (Brian Cox) who's determined to wipe out the mutant race by tricking Xavier into abusing his telepathic powers. More a series of spectacles than a truly satisfying thriller, X2 introduces new mutant allies while giving each of the X-Men alumni--notably the temporarily helpful Magneto (Ian McKellen)--their own time in the spotlight. Well aware of the parallels between "mutantism" and virulent intolerance in the real world, Singer lends real gravity to the proceedings, injecting dramatic urgency into a continuing franchise that, in lesser hands, might've grown patently absurd. --Jeff Shannon

For those of you who have not heard of the iRobot Roomba, the robotic vacuum cleaner. This is a small device that automatically goes around your home vacuum cleaner and cleaning as it goes. The robot can be programmed to perform operations on a fixed schedule. This allows you to empty your house while you're at work.
I am a big fan of science fiction and an engineer by profession, if the theory of robotics a common dream in my life. So when my uncleI showed her iRobot Roomba, I was sold. The fact that it was beep like R2D2 from Star Wars a bonus. Some months ago I bought a gift for my wife's birthday and we were very happy, particularly weil with two cats at home are the balls of cat fur on the floor is usually long gone without effort.
This then has made me of all the science-fiction films, books and comics, which I saw in the 80's 90's, and I wonder how close we reallysome elements of truth. The iRobot Roomba is a robot iRobot major companies, but looking closely, we are expanding into other areas with robots duty.
After the principle that everything is an injury or dangerous to be performed by a robot. This stems from its military wing design, robotics, where robots are one of my biggest seller. This is not the only team to build robots iRobot Roomba to our work life easier and more free time. Lawnbot has introduced a series of robotic lawn mowers, play a job similar to the iRobot Roomba, but for the lawn. He opted for the nursing field with a robotic pet feeder and clean the litter box.
So this is a sign of things to come? IRobot Roomba reported that in 2008They have sold over 2.5 million housing units in the world. Came the first challenge for the robot in our home is the price. CG special effects - are no longer special?

There is a growing trend in the high-budget film for special effects, the star of the show, but a strong story or a script convincing. Granted, many people simply breathing, this form of visual pop corn in large quantities, but films of half-chaos is not always in the sense of being a part of the drama are fully measured. Is not regularly in film production has a look at the classics of their genre and has taken a few hours? I think this film has aged well considering that it is a special effects driven movie from the 60s it still manages to work and captivate today. An important scientist with knowledge the US army needs has had an accident and suffered brain damage. A group of five are shrunk down inside a submersible ship to travel through the scientist's body so they can fix the damage. One of them may be an assassin. There is lots of interesting places that they visit in the body and set designs are enormous. Fantastic voyage keeps your attention throughout and is good fun through and through especially the last six minutes that should keep you on the edge of your seat. Memorable and worth watching again and again.

I honestly don`t know if the other reviewers saw the same film I did, but I have owned the original, Anchor Bay release for years, and haven`t seen the re-release - maybe something was cut, maybe the previous reviewers don`t get 60`s Euro-cult films like "Danger Diabolik", "Fathom", "I`ll Never Forget What`s Isname", "Modesty Blaise" or, for that matter, "Our Man Flint/In Like Flint", or "Deadlier than The Male". With the international sucess of the Bond films, there weren`t enough films of this type to satisfy audience hunger, hence all of the above, and although are flawed (as are the bond films), these flicks filled the void rather nicely. This one in particular, for it`s Madison Avenue corporate tie-ins to everything from arena sports endorsements to Rock concert sponsorships that are now a permanent part of our lives, it`s actually spot-on in it`s comedic absurdity and a harbinger of all things to come. And we`re only a step away from televised executions in one form or another... Both Marcello Mastroianni and Ursula Andress are superb in their roles, especially Mastroianni in his world-weary approach to his lifestyle and profession, and the subtle humor and ironies are abundant everywhere in this film. Elsa Martinelli is hysterical as well as adorable, so if you think the "Austin Powers" franchise is good (if you`re under 40), and like any of the 60`s flix I referenced above(if you`re slightly older), do yourself a favor and get this film. I`ve seen it 3 times, and still find humor in it. O those fab 60`s...

Cinema Classic good stories. The kind of science fiction often expresses the central theme of good verses evil. One of my favorite series Star Wars: George Lucas. My children are drawn to this series published, and enjoy the Episode IV, the first film. Even if you're not a fan of science fiction, this film is very likely that you are aware.
The question is: What message is being said on the screen? How do I use aClassic films to teach my children my beliefs about good and evil?
The answer is: We can use our understanding of children in the establishment of effective dialogue. Just to clarify our belief in the conversation, we send our children the critical thinking skills.
This is what we know:

This is a good source of energy.
It is a source of evil.
Conflicts arise when they are found two energy sources.
Children are presented with good stories to harmthrough the media and literature.
The experience of reporting child with the right people.
Children feel the effects of evil in the world.
Children must find a way, the injustices that occur around them, develop.
How can you take the story of Star Wars movies, or other good verses evil and to teach your beliefs?

You sit with your child to see the film.
He pays attention to details of the story.
You take the child in aDiscussion.
What questions you can ask your child? First surprised by the answers to your children. Encourage the child to share their ideas with you to first extend a few simple questions to help "more to grow.

How to tell if something is good?
How to identify if there is something wrong?
That in the story is good? How do you say that?
This story is bad? How do you say that?
What kinds of things youare good?
What things do not go well?
If you are a character in the story that you would be? What would he do differently if this character?
What options you have when people around you are not good?
What happens if you to make good decisions about your friends?
The above questions should initiate discussions with your children about good verses evil. Depending on the maturity and experiencethe child, can you expand the discussion. There have been recent experience, can help from the child to be won worst-case scenario of what can happen, understand? Does your child have problems with their own ideas about the sources of good and evil? Although we as parents want to protect our children, I think we are mistaken if we do not discuss the current ills. We live in an age that demands honest answers. You have a choice. The Brain From Planet Arous Review

Well, if you are an empath, you'll enjoy this film. Empaths, in case you didn't know, love getting inside of others, wanting to be able to feel how others feel and feel how they think. This film, in my view, builds from that premise of soul to body consciouness and body to body transfer of the soul's yearning to experience other personality types other than its own.

The premise of this movie is real simple: A "bad" or "evil intentioned" brain, named "Gore", from the planet Arous, flees to the earth, to escape judgement for his crimes done on his own world. This brain is able to "phase shift" its atomic structure so it can enter into an organic body while taking control of it. However, every 24 hours it must take on its organic form to breathe oxygen, making it vulnerable or mortal, otherwise it is immortal in its phase shifted, spiritual state of existence. When Gore takes over John Agar's character, Gore discovers the pleasures of the earthly flesh and makes many an attempt to come onto his wife, Jane Meadows, which is why I entitled this "The Brain from the Planet Arousal". The "come ons" are very toned down by today's standards, but no doubt if this was ever updated, allot more would be showed if the story were ever remade.

Anyway, back to the plot. Enters in the "good" brain named "Vol", sent to retrieve Gore and take him back to Arous for his punishment. Until Vol can trap Gore out of the human body he has taken possession of so he can be destoyed, Gore works his plans for world dominance over the earth. The whole film is great actually, including the optical effects for its day; that is until the final scene of the film where you see the wires holding Gore up in the room, while the scientist, whose body was inhabited by Gore, tries to kill Gore with an axe.

The whole ending is a real dissappointment which is why I only gave the movie 4 stars, not 5. You go from this real serious movie to out right hysterics when you see the wires holding up the "materialized" Gore brain in the room. If more had been done to better resolve the final scene in this film, this would have been a sci fi classic in my view, perfect in every way, otherwise the rest of the movie is very well done, both in premise and execution.

It certainly is worth anyone's time to view for the sake of the first 95% of the film. Its almost a total empath's delight to view this film, except for the final scene at the end.

Okay so lets face it, the CGI of this movie looks almost identical to Playstation 1's cinematic scenes.. infact at times it almost feels as if you're playing a PS game and you feel the need to pick up the controller! Aside from that, this is a decent anime. The story is nothing special but its carried out well. The CGI is dated seeing how this is 5 years old now but it's still worth checking out if you're a fan of the methods. A.Li.Ce shouldnt dissapoint.

Jyu-Oh-Sei (Planet of the Beast King): The Complete Series Review

How is it that this show isn't better known? "Jyu-Oh-Sei" is an 11 episode series that manages to stomp nearly every full-length sci-fi anime series out there in spite of it's briefness. At the end, it seems impossible that such an epic and perfectly-paced storyline could be over so quickly and leave such a large impression. That is a true testament to the writer and the director of this series. Guaranteed to thrill any sci-fi fanatic.

The story begins as a simple revenge tale. It takes place in a human colony in the Balkan star system hundreds of years in the future. Our hero Thor and his twin brother Rai (both 11 years old at the start) are mysteriously kidnapped after discovering that their parents have been murdered. They are dropped off on the planet Chimera, which is a world used by the colonists for capital punishment. The worst criminals are abandoned there and are either soon dead or wish they were. The planet is as harsh as they come; monstrous plants are the top of the food chain and a single day and night cycle takes an entire year. Half of the year, the plants flourish and the planet is one massive carnivorous jungle and the other half is complete darkness and Siberian weather. Great setup.

Thor soon learns just how harsh Chimera is. It is kill or be killed; but he soon finds that he has an uncanny knack for survival. He also finds that there is civilization on this harshest of planets. The people of Chimera are a tribal lot broken up by skin color into a series of clans known as Rings. Each ring is lead by a Top, a Second, and a Third with the Top position being decided by single combat within each Ring. If a Ring's Top is able to defeat each of the other Rings, he becomes the Beast King and is able to return to the colony. In other words, if Thor wishes to return home, solve the mystery of his parent's death, and exact his revenge he has his work cut out for him.

"Jyu-Oh-Sei" would already be an outstanding series based on premise alone. The planet is so intriguing a setting and the characters so strong that it could have cruised almost indefinitely without losing the viewer's interest. But the story flies by with amazing velocity, even jumping several years ahead at one point. It's got places to go and people to see, that's for sure and not one minute is wasted. The show is merciless and unpredictable -which it displays very early on- and filled with twists and turns of the best kind. Even though a savvy viewer will likely soon suspect which character is pulling the strings, the purpose remains an unsolvable mystery until the final episodes which feel like an all-out mental assault on the viewer as bombshell after bombshell hits. The final act is absolutely amazing and jam-packed with pure genius. It's extremely easy to lose track of the mysteries altogether as you become wrapped up in the intrigue, romance, and drama of the story, which makes the effect of the barrage of revelations even more shocking. Without any major spoilers, I'll just hint that perhaps the world where mankind's forsaken are sent may in fact be their only hope for survival. Like I said, epic.

While the price of this set is pretty exorbinant considering the small number of episodes, it's well worth it if you've got the bucks. This is a top-flight work of science fiction that should enthrall both anime newcomers and veterans who've seen it all. There is no weak link in this series; every aspect seems to have achieved near-perfection. I was legitimately sad to see it end; but that feeling may have been partly because of the cheap shot near the end that seems to have no purpose other than to break the viewer's heart. Cheap shot aside, "Jyu-Oh-Sei is animated sci-fi greatness. All who profess to love the genre must not hesitate in seeing it.

Spectres of the Spectrum Review

This is a colourful and original attempt to present the history of the development of mass communication in the twentieth century as a series of competing narratives.

There are two basic threads. The first is a comically paranoid, alternative "history" of the development of mass media, weaved out of footage of real twentieth century events. It's very well done, mining imagery from hundreds of old movies, airforce footage, cheesy old 50's science programs, and is also amusingly outrageous. I have to credit Baldwin for working the relationship between rocket pioneer Jack Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard into the story, which, despite appearing in the fantasy part, is almost entirely true!

The second thread consists of interviews with serious commentators, or "activists", as they tend to describe themselves, who provide insights into the real development of the communications industry. This is also illlustrated by archival footage but in this case the clips often playfully or ironically underline the narratives of the commentators.

There are two criticisms I'd make, though.

The first part is somewhat let down by average script writing and very amateurish acting. I found the acting in particular quite grating at first, although I found that eventually I could accept it as part of the joke, in an Ed Woodish sort of way.

The second half is rather too bogged down with the commentators, who tend to overstate their own importance. Beyond some interesting facts about the relationship between early media experiments and mysticism, most of what they say tends to be fairly conventional, and was familiar territory, at least for me. And other than the observation that owners of communications companies have lots of power and money, and like having even more power and money, they don't have many insights of any real originality to contribute, and seem hamstrung by the lack of any coherent theoretical perspectives.

Perhaps one interesting point is that some of the schemes of pioneers like Tesla now strike us as just as bizarre as the fictional strand presented by the film. Indeed, in the case of Tesla, the fictional and real narratives come dangerously close to overlapping.

So overall, despite the film's eagerness to represent itself as an exercise in culture jamming, the final effect is ultimately rather benign.

All the same, it's well conceived and executed, is a lot of fun, and well worth watching.

Every time a vampire in the movies, he is surrounded by small furry companions to accompany him on his nocturnal depredations. When a vampire must make a quick exit, he often turns into one of these weird creatures. But what is a vampire, and they suck blood from unwilling host? Are they evil creatures, hiding in dark caves and castles? Surprising how little scientistsasked that they find their bloodthirsty habits may be helpful to mankind.
Picture a creature with a small head, shining black eyes, and a squashed nose, almost like a pig's snout. The animal has big ears to help rounded and sharp cutting teeth a overbite. It has a wingspan of eight inches, with a soft, brown furry body the size of the thumb of a person. It weighs about three ounces. It is obvious from the long name Desmodonitidae rotundus, but rather be calledthrough their everyday name, the Common Vampire Bat.
The Common Vampire Bat lives in Central and South America, along with their cousins, the White-Winged Vampire Bat and the Hairy-Legged Vampire Bat. The common vampire bat is the only one that loves to eat mammals, birds prefer the other two. They have been at least six to eight million years, with fossil records going back that far.
They love to live in caves, abandoned mines, tree hollows and sometimes abandoned buildings. AsMost bats can see, but use echolocation to find their prey. Living nine years in the wilderness, they have a baby a year, and nest in large family groups, sleeping on his head.
Time to hunt! The young bats will blow out of their caves to cozy evening in search of fat cattle or pigs sleeping in the vicinity of landscape. The vampire bats consume only blood to nourish. They drink about two tablespoons of blood a day, and must drink at least every other day, or they starve to deathDeath.
Ah, a nice big bedroom cow. The vampire bat swoops to break through the back of the cow, and quickly hide the sharp incisors, two small holes (just like Dracula!). The bat then laps the blood in his mouth with his tongue, sucking like nothing more than sloppy. Imagine your pet cat lapping at a bowl of milk.
Special anticoagulants to prevent, or chemicals that help the clotting vampire bat drink enough blood before the blood of the animal dries out, likea mosquito. The bat also has a "stunning" Agent to be eating from waking up and starting to take hold!
Scientists study the anticoagulant in the vampire bat and have a drug has a "Draculin in anticoagulation for heart patients aid. Other scientists are helping with the links to stroke patients limit the effects of blood clots in the brain.
Unfortunately, the vampire is as a nuisance because the bat population has grown tremendously since tropicalForests have been reduced to allow more grazing land for their cattle. With the addition of more livestock were more bats. Ranchers kill bats in large numbers, along with insect-eating bats.
Dracula's best friend, his good friend of humanity in the scientific community to help fight heart attacks and strokes. I hope people can be, brought up to the true nature of the little bat and not continue to kill a helpful beings from ignorance and superstition.

Mothra vs. Godzilla Review

Mothra vs. Godzilla is one of the best Godzilla films ever. The bright colors, the excellent special effects, the monster action, and a basic, yet interesting plot all come together and make this movie what it is. This movie is just pure fun for any fan of giant monsters and/or old-school sci-fi flicks. This movie is also a lot less campy than the future films in the series. As a sci-fi film, it's four stars, but among Godzilla films, it's easily five.

When I was my nephews age I enjoyed Godzilla very much. Now that I am much older and this movie is much older too (at least 30 years ago) I was very very surprised that my nephew gave this movie 4 STARS when I asked him how many he would give it. The 2006 limited-edition two-disc release of Return of the Jedi is not only the first time the movie has been officially available by itself on DVD. It marks the first-ever DVD release of Jedi as it originally played in theaters in 1983. What does that mean exactly? The film is without the various "improvements" and enhancements George Lucas added for the theatrical rerelease in 1997 as well as the DVD premiere in 2004. So Sebastian Shaw reclaims his spot as the man behind Darth Vader's mask, and we don't see the otherworldly celebration (including the Gungans) at the end of the movie.
What do you lose by watching the 1983 version? Dolby Digital 5.1 EX sound, for one thing (only 2.0 Surround here), and digital cleanup. But for home-theater owners, the biggest frustration will be from the non-anamorphic picture. On a widescreen TV, an anamorphically enhanced (16x9) picture at a 2.35:1 aspect ratio will fill the screen with the exception of small black bars on the top and bottom. The original edition of Jedi, however, on a widescreen TV will have large black bars on the top, the bottom, and the sides unless you stretch the picture (and distort it in the process, especially considering the substandard picture quality). If you're watching on a standard square-shaped (4:3) TV, though, you won't notice a difference.
Yes, it's true that serious home-theater lovers who want spectacular sound and anamorphically enhanced picture can always watch the 2004 version of the movie also included in this set. But chances are good that they already picked up the trilogy edition of all three films, so their decision to buy the 2006 two-disc edition depends on how much they want the original film. The official LucasFilm stance is that this is an individual release of the 2004 version of Return of the Jedi, and the 1983 version of the film is merely a "bonus feature." Common speculation is that the only reason the original versions are seeing the official light of day at all is to undercut the booming black market for the laserdisc version. Star Wars fans will have to decide for themselves if that's worth the purchase. --David Horiuchi

Classic Movies good stories to tell. The genre of science fiction often expresses the central theme of good verses evil. One of my favorites is the Star Wars series by George Lucas. My children are drawn to this series also published and enjoy Episode IV, the first film. Even if you are not a science fiction fan, is the film most likely a you know.
The question is: What message is being said on the screen? How can I use aClassic films to teach my children my beliefs about good and evil?
The answer is: We can build an understanding of our children through an effective interview. When clarifying our own beliefs in conversation, we teach our children the skills of critical thinking.
This is what you know:

It is a source of good.
It is a power source of evil.
Conflicts occur when these two sources of energy needs.
Children are presented with good verses evil storiesthrough the media and literature.
Children to experience relationships with good people.
Children feel the effects of evil in the world.
Children must find a way, the injustices that occur around them develop control.
How can the story of Star Wars or other good verses evil movie and teach your beliefs?

You sit with your child, who will see the film.
Pay attention to the details of the story.
Take your child in aDiscussion.
What questions you can ask your child? Firstly, there are answers your child to be enthusiastic. Encourage your child to share their ideas with simple instructions first and expand the survey a step further to help them to grow.

How to tell if something is good?
How to tell if something is evil?
Who in the story is good? Why do you think that?
Who in history is evil? Why do you think that?
What things you makeThat are good?
What are the things you do not feel well?
If you are a character in the story that you want to be? What would you have done differently if you were that character?
What options you have when the people around you not to be good?
What happens if you make good decisions, to your friends?
The above questions are to initiate the discussion with your children about good verses evil. Depending on the maturity and experiencethe child have the opportunity to broaden the discussion. Have there been any recent experiences can be used to help your child understand the more serious situations that may occur? If your child has questions of her own design on the energy sources of Good and Evil? While we as parents want to protect our children, I think it is in error if we do not present to discuss not the evil. We live in an age that requires honest answers. You have a choice. You can Teach your child yourIdeas about good and evil, or someone who can influence the thinking of your child.
My challenge to you: Knowing what your beliefs are about good and evil. Make a language and a means of communicating your beliefs, your children.

Science fiction has developed the idea of artificial intelligence for a year. Giving machines intelligence often spells the end of mankind as they then rise up against their creators and violently free themselves from oppression. There are lessons like in the movie "Spider-Man 2" in which the robotic arms of Dr. Octavius start controlling his brain, thus forcing actions identified to run it. I've never really an interest in artificial intelligenceuntil recently, when I started studying the basics at the university. The only AI Science Fiction that ever really interested me 'Blade Runner' and his novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" written by Philip K. Dick. The subtext of the story deals with AI becoming self-aware but still unaware of their true nature, a concept that really interested me. Real AI is quite fascinating and very different in many ways than I had expected.
To start with, whatexactly is AI? http://www.dictionary.com defines it as follows:
1. The ability to carry out a computer or other machine for those activities that are normally thought to require intelligence.
2. The branch of computer science concerned with the development of machines with this capability.
If you look at that you may find that the field of AI is actually much farther than many people give it credibility. Even the Google search engine can be said to incorporate someresearch in AI made. The definition of AI, intelligence itself sometimes varies, but it is probably safe to say that a simple statement that if a machine has a certain level of intelligence in some areas it can be called AI.
The AI of the films is usually fully aware of themselves, emotionally, and for all intents and purposes "alive". It's of learning, reasoning able to explain and to deceive. The AI I've experienced (and this is very simple, only scratch the surface of theDepth of studies, AI) is far more specialized, focusing on only one aspect of the problem, which could potentially much greater. There are several areas of research will be conducted in the creation of the humanoid machines of science fiction, but still most are still limited to the realm of fantasy. A very impressive piece of engineering, the Honda ASIMO project. This project has a humanoid robot, created with some remarkable properties. I'm not quite sure whetherit is really a practical use for this (I think they just try to justify their funding with the applications mentioned on the website), but it scores as one of the coolest use of technology I've ever seen. From what I can tell ASIMO is not intended, a particularly human robot via superficial level. He shows no emotion or learn outside its constraints (it can learnAreas and they navigate, etc. But you could not just sit down and teach him the piano without playing it and are) in some serious adjustment. He will not mislead anyone to believe that it is people in the foreseeable future.
The Turing test is a measure of artificial intelligence that was created by Alan Turing. He said that was the question of whether machines could think, too vague, and proposed a test that was more specific. His test without too much detail,involved in trying to use a computer to people in the assumption that it was people get stupid. The people would be a question in a console and receive a response from the computer on the other type. While there was much work to try to systems that do, consist of the Turing test, none of them has yet succeeded. It has also researched in the creation of machines that can show emotions. However, we are still far away from there a machine that can occur live.
EarlyExcitement over AI, the developers try to lead a general ground that the search problem solver with a wealth of knowledge that they acquired and the solutions to every problem that has been thrown at it could create. Unfortunately, proved almost impossible in practice. Today's AI tends to focus on very specific problems and focus of the knowledge areas. Expert systems are programs that the "experts" in a particular area, and answer the questions to only this area. Their applications include medicalDiagnosis, credit card application and other areas in which to analyze data.
I have not even begun to explore the true extent of AI in this article, but maybe I've piqued your interest. The Chosen One Review

The Chosen One is ridiculous amounts of fun to watch. Right off the bat you get Tim Curry as a golden-haired, snappily-dressed Lucifer, introducing the characters and story, centering around Lou (perfectly played by Chad Fifer), who is having the roughest day imaginable - fired, dumped by his girlfriend (Laura Prepon of That 70s Show fame), kicked out of the apartment he shares with his old man room-mate (Chris Sarandon of Princess Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas wonderful-ness)...and lots more stuff you can only achieve with animation unless you have millions of dollars to spend on effects and bears. Chris Lackey - director and lead animator does an awesome and hilarious job with what he has been quoted as calling his 'crappy animation'.

My family watched it together and everyone from the 7 year old, through the cynical teenagers, to my 84 year old Catholic grandmother, completely loved it. The satire on organized religion (Lou is declared The Chosen One by The Church of Frank, who send him to Kansas to meet God - and all the major religions are dispatched to stop him - Lance Henriksen of Aliens is a particular favorite as a Cardinal) is gentle but thought-provoking.

The only thing I did not like was the fact that it was missing the inside booklet on the left-hand side. I am not 100% sure it came with one, but every movie I ever purchased before came with one other than DVD's you may see sold off the street.

This movie has the special effects of Ray Harryhausen and the effects are spectacular! He was a genius in stop motion special effects and his work in this movie is second to none.

The colorized version is good but not great. The colorization is better now than it has been in the past, but, in my opinion, still has a way to go before it has the spectacular look of an old Technicolor print.

A textbook example of '50s-era science fiction, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers boasts not only a solid script and competent performances, but some genuinely impressive stop-motion effects courtesy of one of the industry's uncontested masters, Ray Harryhausen. Scientist Hugh Marlowe (who faced a more benevolent invader from space five years earlier in The Day the Earth Stood Still) discovers that UFOs are responsible for the destruction of a series of exploratory space rockets launched by his space exploration project. The saucers' helmeted pilots land on Earth and deliver an ultimatum to humanity via Marlowe: fealty or complete annihilation.
Harryhausen's painstakingly intricate saucers and the destruction they wreak (particularly during an assault on Washington, D.C.) are the film's unquestionable highlights, but Marlowe and Joan Taylor (as his wife/partner) are capable leads, and veteran B director Fred F. Sears doesn't let the dialogue and expositional scenes fall apart in between the barrage of effects. 10 Entertaining (Mainly) Horror DVDs to Kill 90 Minutes With If You've Got Nothing Else to Do!

The best thing about the DVD is a good way to kill a few hours if you have nothing else to do when their entertaining! Entertaining, is not always good, though sometimes a movie is both entertaining and well. A couple of movies I have listed are actually so good that you probably would have been, looking to rent or buy on DVD on their own, if you knew anything about them. Anyway, here is my list for you in alphabetical order. The most important criteria, withthat they provide entertainment. Actually, the total of 12, if you reckon an original and modern remake than 2 DVDs and I could not drop another DVD from the list!
Two Thousand Maniacs (1964) and / or 2001 Maniacs (2005) - 2001 Maniacs is actually the actor Robert Englund colorized remake of the classic 1964 horror movie with the civil war of revenge to the present! 2001 Maniacs is manic and over the top and of course sick and disgusting and I stillmore entertaining than the original, as it amps up the action. The original is quite good as well and you can actually see movies and not get bored.
The Butterfly Effect (2004) - A really good science fiction movie, for some reason seemed to be suffering a backlash when it came out probably because it favorite Ashton Kutcher, who was in fact quite good. This film is like an evil evil "Ground Hog Day" and it seems to have been inspired by theNovel "Replay" by Ken Grimwood.
Cabin Fever (2002) - This is the movie that launched careers Eli Roth, Hostel before he made. Roth is one of my favorite directors and film is awesome, sick and disgusting and not anyones idea of a "Chick Flick" unless the meat-eating virus in a remote cabin setting is shared by friends on holiday is your idea of romance
Dead Silence (2007 -) I must admit, I love "ventriloquist" horror movies. IRate this movie quite entertaining, but on the surface, there is absolutely no redeeming social value. A great movie for people who like to be scared of dummies!
Decoy (1946) - One of the most underrated and with (relatively) unknown film noir classic, reflecting the nastiest, most regretted, ruthless, cold, female villain of all time. This film was 60 years ahead of its time. It is as an added bonus, the lodging of an executed murderer back to life, greed, betrayal andmore.
The Devil Rides Out (1968) - The Hammer Horror film with the great Christopher Lee is one of the best movies about Satan and devil-rich forever and is a perfect example of the serious, but Campy style of play in the 60s who are not in covered 2008th There is simply no way a modern actor has seriously spout the dialogue of the film with a straight face as the wonderful British actor here in 1968. Some large properties in major Britishthe scenery and of course, Satan.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003) - This film is one of my top ten films of all time. Featuring the directorial debut of Rob Zombie, this is for me one of the most entertaining Skipped, always sick horror movies. The casting, acting, screenplay, is perfect. When the time does not entertain you will get nothing, Sid Haig as Captain Spaulding would have an Oscar! This film has even Rainn Wilson, aboveOffice!
Kidnapped (2006 Complete TV Series) - This is actually the entire 13 Episode 2006 awarded TV series Starring Jeremy Sisto about the kidnapping of a wealthy boss's (Timothy Hutton), the son that a taut thriller with a huge number of twists and turns, to a deserved big TV audience. "Kidnapped" was canceled before it could be said to reach the level of success, a "24", when the first sheet is completed the exhibition here. It would be worthwhile, even if the rentalThey wanted not only to kill time and be entertained.
Shutter (2008) - This is a thoroughly entertaining American knockoff of the Basic Modern Japanese horror film, the great actor Joshua Jackson. It is absolutely a class "B" or "C" movie, but Joshua Jackson says some of the most contemptible of lines of ignorance in the history of sound film towards the end of the film. This is worth renting just for the dialogue Joshua Jackson alone in the last 10Minutes, which is amazing on. The author is a genius.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) - This is a science-fiction-fantasy-type movie with Jude Law and I thought the photography and style were quite amazing and I felt like I was in a 1940 space opera. I can not understand why this film was not too extensive in the box office.
Wonderfalls (2004) - A truly fantastic TV show that deserves a better fate, but it was on Fox, whichDo you expect? Only 4 episodes of this show have been transferred before it was canceled, but this case is the complete 13 episodes that were originally filmed. This was the best whimsical fantasy art-see TV show I have ever, with excellent acting under the direction of the stunning Caroline Dhavernas, which should have made this show one star, large print and in charge.

The Sci-Fi channels movies are usual good, but I must start out this review by saying that this is probably the best movie it has made. Yes, I did give it a grade B, but I did that for a reason about the DVD, not the movie itself. (More on that later in the review.) People usually judge Sci-Fi movies, almost stereotyping them, and it just makes me mad, furious, because if you're going to take the time to watch a Sci-Fi movie in the first place, you can't really expect to find the next Oscar nominee for best picture. You're crazy if you do.
Yes, their movies are usual laughingly low-budgeted (they almost seem to take pride in the fact), but the simple truth is this: their movies are fun to watch; they're simple entertainment, in this case, Pterodons assaulting a group of Woman's Airforce Service Pilots.
The movie starts off with a group of Japanese soldiers mining for oil on an island somewhere in the middle of the Pacific, and the time is in the final days of World War 2. The Japanese unearth some preserved Pteranodon eggs, and they hatch and run amok from there. Simple, yet highly entertaining plot, and no, the plot is not only for the weak-minded; the Pteranodons don't even have much screen-time, which is my only complaint about the movie. (More dinosaurs!! Needs more dinosaurs!!!)

The acting is also surprisingly good for a Sci-Fi movie, and the characters don't always act suicidal, like in other recent Sci-Fi movies, such as Yeti. Yes, you do feel for the characters, and you do want them to get out of their situation alive.
The other problem with the movie though is the special effects. The Pteranodons look great (their made using CGI effects), but did they really have to make almost everything else CGI? I mean, even the ocean is CGI in some parts. Once again, kind of cheap guys.
As for the DVD itself, the cover is sort of misleading. At first glance, it appears as if there is a Tyrannosaurus Rex attacking the planes. There is no Tyrannosaurus Rex in the movie. If you want to see Pteranodons and T. Rex's in one movie, go watch Pterodactyl. (Which is not as great as this movie.)
Another problem with the DVD is the special features. I wasn't exactly expecting a whole "making of" documentary, but I wanted at least something else! All there is to the special features is the trailer for the movie, and a trailer for some other movie. That's it. Whoop-dee-doo.
Overall, if you love dinosaurs and the Sci-Fi channel, this is a must-see. They really hit gold with this one, I just wish they would keep making gold like this all the time...But it never hurts to dream, does it?

Space Battleship Yamato: The Movie Review

Space Battleship Yamato was the source material for the anime that would become known in the U.S. as Star Blazers. This movie takes the twenty-six episode series and whittles it down to a 135 minute film, only using the sections of the series that are absolutely necessary to tell the main story of the series (the Earth being polluted by the Planet Gamilus, the crew of the rebuilt Yamato making the 148,000 light year voyage to Iscandar to get a neutralizer to rid Earth of the pollution... and must accomplish it all within one Earth year).

This isn't bad for what it is, which is an overview film for the first season. The DVD release also includes the original theatrical trailer and alternate animation footage (both of which are subtitled), the original program book (which is translated), a gallery of promotional art, and a history behind the Yamato franchise.

Fritz Lang was to most of his colleagues, known as a "control freak". It is well known that it difficult and very demanding work with. The highlight of the career of Fritz Lang was well distributed in the years 1922 to 1933, when classics like "Dr.Mabuse ',' Siegfried ',' spies', 'M', 'Woman in the Moon" and, of course, created' Metropolis'. If there is aFilm by Fritz Lang then remember it would have to 'Metropolis'. In his quest for perfection, most would agree that was the nearest he ever got.
With "Metropolis" Everything was from the beginning. The script, written by his then-wife Thea von Harbou, was fantastically constructed from beginning to end. When out of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" he achieved true greatness. It is a great milestone of film stills expressionist shadows touched the hearts of thousands today. In recent years, a terrible epidemic on its way through Hollywood, which was the "revival of the classics." There were also serious discussions going on to try to "new" Lang's "Metropolis". This is a very unsettling thoughtand conjures up a terrible fear. Is anyone in the film industry ever learn? Also, if something works, why fix the problem? And 'Metropolis' works with a precision industrial, scientific precision and artistic flair.

Beneath the 12-Mile Reef Review

I watched this movie and enjoyed it verfy much. In 1953 when I was still a young man I visited Tarpon Springs Florida Docks where there were many sponge warehouses. There was a classic boat floating off the dock. Seated on the dock surrounded by a half dozen young girls was Robert Wagner signing his autograph. At the time I didn't know him but I did say "Who in the world is this guy" He stared back at me and didn't say a word. It was late in the afternoon and the sun was shining in his eyes. I still remember those piercing eyes.
At that time I had a Pontiac Convertible and by chance in the back streets of Tarpon Springs came upon Terry Moore. She was driving a Jeep. I enjoyed playing with her following her in my car. It was an enjoyable experience which I will never forget.
My point is that most of the underwater scenes were made off Taron Springs a fact that very few people know.

Even a still-impressive underwater battle with an octopus pre-dates the more famous giant squid of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954). This movie is all over the place, but it is fantastic every year Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd go to. First they go to 2015 where cars fly ( 6 yrs away, can we do it for real?) and they save Marty McFly Jr from jail, however a Sports Almanac that Marty from 1985 bought and left behind was taken by Grandpa Griff who goes to 1955 to give to Biff from that year and makes him an evil corrupt JR Ewing type. Fox and Lloyd return to a miserable 1985, of course discover it had to do with the Sports Almanac and all the scores of the games which Biff bet and won since he knew who would win. They 2 travel back to 1955 to get the almanac back. This is where it gets incredible with scenes from the first film shot in different perspectives now including 2 Marty McFly's the one from 1955 to save his father and the one from the corrupt 1985 to get the almanac to make 1985 'normal' again. Basically it incorporates this movie into the first film, mainly at the dance where you see McFly doing his guitar bit, while the other McFly is above him getting ready to attack Biff's friends. There are plenty of Biff and Mcfly characters everywhere. Just a non stop action fest right from the opening credits. Highly recommended. If you have never seen this, don't wait another second. Superior film making in my opinion.Excellent blend of scifi,comedy,adventure and great family fun..This DVD has bonus features like commentary , interviews, deleted scenes and is an upgrade from the box set for that reason..

Critics and audiences didn't seem too happy with this inventive, perhaps too clever sequel to the popular 1985 comedy about a high school kid (Michael J. Fox) who travels into the past and has to bring his parents together (or lose his own existence). Director Robert Zemeckis and cast bent over backwards to add layers of time-travel complication to this follow-up, and while it surely exercises the brain it isn't necessarily funny in the same way that its predecessor was. It's well worth a visit, though, just to appreciate the imagination that went into it, particularly in a finale that has Fox's character watching his own actions from the first film. --Tom Keogh
