Space Daze/Strangest Dreams: Invasion of the Space Preachers

Space Daze/Strangest Dreams: Invasion of the Space Preachers Review

I bought this for Daniel Boyd's "Strangest Dreams: Invasion of the Space Preachers" which is the ultimate in low-budget, sci-fi films. In some ways it's nothing but cheese, but it's good cheese! "Space Daze" wasn't so hot... it was like the makers of that movie were trying to hard to surpass the B-movie rating, but on a miniscule budget. "Strangest Dreams", however, accepted the B-movie status and made the most of it.

The Noah's Ark Principle

The Noah's Ark Principle Review

The year is 1997, and World Peace seems to have come, with most classic weapons of mass destruction having been abandoned. However, orbiting the Earth there is the European/American space station FLORIDA ARKLAB, capable of controlling the weather at any location on the planet underneath. A civil project by nature, it might be abused as an offensive weapon, since it could deliver devastation to any potential adversary simply by creating natural disasters such as storms and floods. No wonder the space station soon becomes the central point in rising political tensions between East and West, next stop World War 3 (as indicated by the German tagline (transl.) "The end of our future has already begun"). We're following the main protagonist Billy Hayes, an astronaut aboard the station, as he wades through a plot of secrecy and sabotage trying to tell friend from foe in the process.

El Hombre Sin Sombra (Hollow Man)

El Hombre Sin Sombra (Hollow Man) Review

I'm not sure why everyone is dissecting this movie. Its not Shakespeare people! This movie is nothing more than an entertaining thriller. Sebastian (Kevin Bacon) plays a genius scientist who uses himself as a guinea pig when his science team successfully figure out how to bring back animals who are made invisible. Sebastian and his team in a meeting with the Pentagon fail to tell them that they have figured out how to bring animals back from invisbility. In other words, Sebastian want to keep that knowledge and power to himself despite the government funding his research. Sebastian then volunteers to become invisible as the first human guinea pig. Sebastian is successfully made invisible after nearly dying on the table, but once his viatals are stablized, the team is unable to bring him back to normal. Days and weeks pass then all hell breaks lose. The movie clearly explains why Sebastian goes crazy but everyone posting here is questioning it. After Sebastian's team fail to bring him back to normal and he is locked in the facility, he starts to lose his mind, conscience, morals, everthing. Get it? Hollow Man. Anyway it's the affects of the invisibility serum that causes psychosis which I thought is clearly explained in the film. After Sebastian sneaks away from the facility they warn Sebastian. In his anger he kills a dog in the facility and that's when Elisabeth Shue and Josh Brolin decide to tell the Pentagon and the rest of the team finds out the Pentagon doesn't know about Sebastian becoming invisible. At this point Sebastian is completely psychotic and starts killing everyone who knows (the science team) to stay invisible. I watch this movie every time I catch it on HBO and I'm buying the DVD when I get a chance. I enjoy this movie and of course watching Josh Brolin. Elisabeth Shue plays Sebastian's former girlfriend and the one who saves the day in the film without giving it away too much. I love this movie and the great performances in it and don't get what all the negative comments are about. If you want to see a thrilling movie that gets more fast paced and exciting as it nears its climax then I recommend this movie. I love it.

El Hombre Sin Sombra (Hollow Man) Overview

In Paul Verhoeven's appropriately shallow Hollow Man, Kevin Bacon plays a bad-boy egotistical scientist who heads up a double-secret government team experimenting with turning life-forms invisible. How do we know he's a bad boy? Because he (a) wears a leather overcoat, (b) compares himself to God, (c) drives a sports car, and (d) spies on his comely next-door neighbor while eating Twinkies. Sadly, this is the most character development anyone gets in this undernourished action/sci-fi thriller, which boasts some amazing special effects and some amazingly ridiculous plot twists. After experimenting rather ruthlessly on a menagerie of lab animals, Bacon finally cracks the code that will turn the invisible gorillas, dogs, and so on, back into their visible forms. Does it work on humans? Faster than you can say "six degrees," Mr. Bacon appoints himself human guinea pig, strapping down for an injection of fluorescent-colored serum. Thanks to some phenomenal, seamless and Oscar-worthy computer effects, Bacon is indeed rendered invisible, organ by organ, vein by vein. And what's the first thing you'd do if you were invisible? Why, spy on your female coworkers in the bathroom and molest your comely next-door neighbor, of course! Soon, Bacon is thoroughly psychotic, and it's up to Elisabeth Shue (Bacon's coworker and ex-girlfriend) and hunky Josh Brolin (her current snuggle bunny) to defeat the invisible man, who's picking off the science team one by one. You'd think this would be a prime opportunity for copious amounts of cheesy sex and aggressive violence--which Verhoeven served up so well and so exuberantly in Starship Troopers and Basic Instinct--but if anything, the director seems to tone down the proceedings, and really, who wants a muted Paul Verhoeven movie? Shue (who got top billing and a bad haircut to boot) and Brolin (who, yes, does take off his shirt at least once) generate little heat, and while Bacon does give an effective, primarily voice-oriented performance, his character is so underdeveloped that, well, you can see right through him. --Mark Englehart

Star Wars FX Lightsabers - The Ultimate in Star Wars Memorabilia

Of all the weapons, which is during the 6 Star Wars movies that most technophobic or lovers of the series, you seem a lightsaber. Although over the years, the toy is a product of what he believes in a reasonable copy of them. But all that changed with the introduction of Star Wars FX Lightsabers.

Certainly, for those who dress up as characters in such films as, like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Princess Leia. Now they have a weapon that can really take the role of their favorite movie character and fight in the competition found.

However, came out in the FX Lightsaber in Star Wars is not much more than that, what you saw, in May, when the first film. But he must understand that not only the ones that look like real weapons, but they sound like them.

The first models were produced and are available around the baseThe light saber of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Yoda, has taken all possible, a hot blade that ignites with the same energy to and from the impact, like the movies. And the sound effects from these are the same sounds can be heard in film of faith that they were digitally captured.

Each of these four Lightsabers motion sensors, which not only control the sound effects, but the power of top-down effects, zoom and slow motionConfrontation. Furthermore, all metal handles, which not only look like in the movies, but I feel like a real lightsaber down as well and are with the blade attached to the real and very durable and strong.

Even if lightsabers above have proven very popular since the publication of the last three Star Wars movies: Darth Maul 's Mace Windu and Obi Wan Kenobi, so proved. While many people buyDarth Maul FX Lightsaber Star Wars as it comes with dual-blade, as in the movie. If it be your house, you really need to do the first assembled, but this task is very simple. Just take the two blades and connect the supplied.

While the new Obi-Wan Kenobi FX Lightsaber is very similar to those we mentioned earlier. However, it is now with five motion sensors to control various sound effectsis an extra swing. The effects of light that are realistic, as you'll see in the film through a series of 64 super-bright LEDs which are linked together, causing the light at the end of the leaf.

To use the Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Mace Windu Star Wars lightsaber FX you will need 3 AA batteries, not included. The new Darth Maul Double-sheet requires 6 AAA batteries. However, why the lightsaber of Yoda is the smallest of all, in fact, need 3 AAA batteries. Again, as mentioned in other Star Wars FX Lightsabers in this article are not included, must be purchased when you get one of them.

Sunshine Movie Review

BOTTOM LINE: Science socket, and visually stunning - Thriller, so that only a weak second half of the psycho / foreign-kill crew subplot.

THE GOOD: Sunshine of classics like "2001 inspired: A Space Odyssey," "Alien" and "Blade Runner" in the visual department, and it shows: The pictures are absolutely outstanding. The film also shares some tonal quality, which adds the sense of realism that runs through these fabulous viewsFilm. Really felt like I was there, and is credited to director Danny Boyle and his team have succeeded in this world with a budget far less than expected to make (the film looks like a $ 100 + miles but was only briefly over half of them). The scenario with the "relaunch" of the sun, is to save the solar system and intelligent, with plenty of space to a series of philosophical discussions and intelligently on the place of humans given in the universe. The cast is excellent, without the use of large stars are only seen Cillian Murphy and Michelle Yeoh best possible way. Murphy, in particular, was an interesting choice, I had always associated with men crazy, because he was not so good, but this time he plays the straight guy totally convincing. The film is a wonderful film, and it really works rather than in space ... at least during the first half of the film.

THE BAD: The last half of the film losesits application when it killed psycho-killer/alien is a secular story of an old cliché space, the crew of the ship, one after the other. It was "one million times, and because the directors believe it is necessary to put in this film, especially as the main plot was strong enough for the rest of the film support is a complete mystery. Finally, the miracle of inspiration and incredibly realistic depiction of space, that the film has created. Of course there are all the claustrophobiaAngle and how the impact on the mental health of the team, but maybe Let It Be could this time.

The Lost Room (Mini-Series)

The Lost Room (Mini-Series) Review

As a big syfy fan I loved the Lost Room. It was one of those movies you just can't pause. Once I finished the first part ( it's a three part mini series) I had to pop in the second one asap! With every scene you discover something new that keeps you wanting more. The plot is unique and unpredictable. The characters are real and easy to relate to. The concept is so one of a kind there is no way to guess what's coming next. I highly recommend the Lost Room DVD it's a steal for under . Great gift idea for all the syfy fans on your list.

The Lost Room (Mini-Series) Overview

A detective investigating mysterious occurrences in room ten at the Sunshine Motel discovers a portal to another universe.
Genre: Feature Film-Drama
Rating: UN
Release Date: 8-JAN-2008
Media Type: DVD

The Lost Room (Mini-Series) Specifications

If you're a fan of NBC's 2006 hit show Heroes, chances are you'll get a similar kick out of The Lost Room, a three-part, 4.5-hour Sci-Fi Channel miniseries originally broadcast in December 2006. It's pure hokum (especially when compared to Heroes, which rises from the same creative zeitgeist), and not nearly as clever at it initially seems to be, but there's something undeniably compelling about its premise, which turns everyday objects from the Kennedy era into powerful talismans of supernatural force. The present-day story is rooted in a dark, terrible, and cosmically reverberant incident that occurred in a remote motel room in 1961. Now it's 45 years later, and Detective Joe Miller (Six Feet Under's Peter Krause) has acquired a motel-room key that turns any door into a portal to "the lost room," a kind of alternate-reality no-man's-land, where his young daughter Anna (Elle Fanning, a look-alike for her older sister Dakota) soon goes missing. In his quest to retrieve her, Miller attracts the dangerous attention of various secret factions (with names like The Order, The Legion, and The Collectors) in heated competition to locate the many objects that hold strange powers and could, when gathered together, yield amazing benefits or tear reality apart.

Beginning with Krause, superb casting makes The Lost Room constantly engaging, even when its logic borders on nonsensical. Clearly intended as a potential series, it leads to a let-down ending where too many questions remain unanswered, but getting there is a blast. And while the smart, beautiful Julianna Margulies seems cast adrift as Miller's bland love interest (and a member of the object-seeking underground), the story grows increasingly intriguing with the introduction of a wealthy father (Kevin Pollak) obsessed with curing his cancerous son with the objects; an unstable nebbish (Peter Jacobsen) who's been driven nearly mad by his visits to the lost room; a devious doctor (Dennis Christopher) who falls in with a group of religious zealots convinced that the lost room leads to God; and various supporting characters (including comedian/monologist Margaret Cho) and subplots that lead you to believe this is all leading to something fantastic. That The Lost Room fails to deliver on its early promise doesn't mean it's a waste of time; it's got the same clever appeal as Heroes and Lost, and one can easily see how it might've made a more rewarding long-form series. Individual reactions will vary, but fans of supernatural sci-fi will want to check it out for themselves. --Jeff Shannon
