12:01

12:01 Review

12:01 is a movie not to be missed. It has all the elements of an exciting science fiction story, with enough comedy and romance to make it enjoyable for the entire family.

If the plot about a loop in time seems amazingly like Groundhog Day, you'll be even more amazed to know that this story came first -- published in the early 70's. 12:01, however, is a good deal heavier on the cloak-and-dagger atmosphere, with a little of The Office thrown in for good measure. The personnel manager is hatefully hysterical!

It's also fun to watch Martin Landau once again in a "Mission Impossible" kind of role.

Love it!

Star Wars Halloween Costumes - A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy

Star Wars is one of science fiction stories with a series of fun characters to choose from when deciding on a costume. There are a total of six films, and each has its own unique characteristics. If you want in a costume from Star Wars dress, here are some of your selections. They are suitable for both children and adults.

Han Solo

Starring Harrison Ford in the original trilogy, Han Solo is one of the most popular favorites. A pilotHeroes sarcastically, is a fun Star Wars costume choice if you want to find a sign that they "are" for the evening.

Darth Vader

This is another great selection of costumes from Star Wars. The dress is fresh and you get to carry a lightsaber. To find a costume of Darth Vader, then you probably need to rent. You can buy a lightsaber in a toy store or rent the costume. I do not want to skip this part. A lightsaber is one of the most important aspects of thisSuit.

Princess Leia

When the first film came out, people want to look like Princess Leia. This is fun for those who like the first film. You can braid hair and beautiful clothes. To make the character more believable, we recommend the hire of costumes

Yoda

Yoda is very funny to dress. If you choose to have your Yoda Star Wars Costumes elected, must speak their own way and to develop evenbring a lightsaber. This is a global character, you must apply the rent and any make-up.

Luke Skywalker

Another classic character is the hero, Luke Skywalker end. Fought Darth Vader. If you get the costume party or trick or treat with someone dressed as Darth Vader, you can play some funny scenes. Shows with someone who is Princess Leia and Hans Solo and you can play reconstruct almost the entire film.

OtherCelebrities

Of course there are many other characters, and you can also find them in the costume shop costume. It Amidalla Padme, Jar Jar Binks, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, etc. Choose your character, you can have fun with.

Polymorph (Special Edition)

Polymorph (Special Edition) Review

"Polymorph" is an obscure gem from the middle of J.R. Bookwalter's career. The film concerns itself with a rather convoluted plot centered around a den of drug dealers interacting with four teenagers camping in the woods while both groups are being pursued by a silly creature from space. Some of the special effects are very amusing (although evidently they have been enhanced for DVD, which makes me wonder what they looked like in the original VHS release), and one matte painting in particular is amazingly bad.

Beyond all that, the movie is actually immensely watchable. The acting varies in quality, with Tom Hoover probably giving the best overall performance as "Carlos" the evil drug lord of ambiguous sexual orientation. I very much enjoyed the "making of" feature, the audio commentary tracks (of which there are two), and the other extras. This film is not as enjoyable in a campy way as Bookwalter's earlier treatises on cheese like "Chickboxer," but it is a fun movie that I recommend.

Spaceballs

Spaceballs Review

This is the one that should've been director Mel Brooks' comeback film. It comes very close to recapturing the magic of the old comedies, but again, there's too many stale jokes & juvenile levels of humor marring the proceedngs. Still, "Spaceballs"--which parodies several landmark sci-fi films, particularly "Star Wars"--has some very funny moments in it, courtesy of the cast. Brooks plays roles on the good & evil side of the "Schwartz" coin--that of the dapper but despicable President Skroob and the dwarfed movie-merchandise peddler Yogurt, sort of a Jewish Yoda. Next generation comic talents John Candy & Rick Moranis have a field day as the half man-half dog alien Barfolomew (Candy), and the malevolent miniature villain Dark Helmet (Moranis). Luke Skywalker & Han Solo are merged into one hapless hero, Lonestar (a smirkingly amusing Bill Pullman), while newcomer Daphne Zuniga plays the feisty spoiled Princess Vespa, much as Carrie Fisher played Leia. Even Brooks film veterans Dom DeLuise & Dick Van Patten lend a hand as the disgusting mobster Pizza the Hut (Dom; get the joke name?), and the slightly kooky King of Druidia (Van Patten).
The film's probably at its best when doing satirical in-jokes; you can't help but snigger at the absurd invention of "instant cassettes", the "Spaceballs" merchandising running gag, or when Lonestar complains: "Just what we need..a Druish Princess!" With Candy replying: "Funny, she doesn't look Druish!"
"Spaceballs" is what it is: An amusing & occasionally fun sci-fi spoof. It's just a shame it became another example of Brooks' then wobbly track record at the box office.

Spaceballs Overview

John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman and Dom DeLuise rocket into orbit in this side-splitting Mel Brooks excursion where good and evil forces grapple in an out-of-this-world galaxy.

Spaceballs Specifications

Mel Brooks's 1987 parody of the Star Wars trilogy is a jumble of jokes rather than a comic feature, and, predictably, some of those jokes work better than others. The cast, including Brooks in two roles, more or less mimics the principal characters from George Lucas's famous story line, and the director certainly gets a boost from new allies (SCTV graduates Rick Moranis and John Candy) as well as old ones (Dick Van Patten, Dom DeLuise). Watch this and wait for the sporadic inspiration--but don't be surprised if you find yourself yearning for those years when Brooks was a more complete filmmaker (Young Frankenstein). --Tom Keogh

Do you like science fiction?

Many people have enjoyed science fiction and recently had a friend who is a vegetarian and has lived throughout Europe, has expressed my year of reading Sci Fi and a list of many of his favorite authors. Among these authors like Robert Heinlein, Sheckley Charles, Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov, Ursula Le Guin KK ... at the age of science fiction, especially as some say, William Gibson Heinlein or later.

In fact, he loves like science fictionPlans for their own science fiction book to write soon. I said to myself: "Wow!" That is a hell of a line-up of the main authors, is, in fact, I bet everything he says is inspired by some of the greatest science fiction writers of all time. I'm like Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Ben Bova, Caleb Carr, Stephen Baxter, Jules Verne, Gene Roddenberry, HG Wells, and try to stay from science fiction fantasy. Although, I must say thatdo not get this movie in the theater.

Between us, I would say that those who are well known and interesting authors. We talked about the future of propulsion technologies that we believe comes and decided we would not mind a long duration mission in space exploration for the benefit of the truth, science and humanity. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (with Movie Cash)

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (with Movie Cash) Review

I watched this movie when it originally aired on TV, and it inspired me to want to read the book. I had only seen the Disney movie before, but not since I was a little kid so I didn't really remember it. The book ended up being really different, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying this movie. The Stanley Kubrick version of The Shining doesn't have much to do with the book it's based on either, but I still love it. If you can watch this version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea as it's own thing, it's actually really good. I actually always thought it was one of the best made-for-tv movies, and I wanted to see it again but they never reaired it. Finally it came out on DVD after YEARS of searching for it, and I still like it.

I don't understand all the negative reviews. I'm probably going to get attacked for this, but I actually like this better than the Disney movie, which I watched again not long after this aired. The Disney movie feels to me like a travelogue and has minimal story. This version has a better story and a more climactic ending. There's more happening. It's darker, edgier. There's more character development, and a couple new characters (Nemo's daughter, played by Mia Sara), which may make some people mad but I thought it added to the story. One of the criticisms I've heard people make of Jules Verne is that he wasn't very good at writing women. All the same themes and ideas are here, some of them are just presented in a different way. The special effects aren't as good as I remembered, they look kind of cheap, but halfway through the movie you stop noticing because you're drawn into the story.

Anyway, give it a chance. You may be pleasantly surprised.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (with Movie Cash) Feature

It is the job of a curious marine expert, Professor Pierre Aronnax (Patrick Dempsey from the hit TV show "Grey's Anatomy") and the iron-willed sailor, Ned Land (Bryan Brown) to learn the truth of the "monster" roaming the depths of the ocean. Their discovery begins when th

The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms / Them! (Double Feature)

The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms / Them! (Double Feature) Review

When one compiles a list of the great sci-fi films of the fifties, that list must include "Them!" and "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms." Besides being made during the same decade, the two films have so much in common:

1) They were both produced and released by Warner Brothers.
2) Both feature actors in supporting roles as the "old scientist," Edmund Gwenn in "Them" and Cecil Kellaway in "Beast", respectively.
3) Both films have then-state-of-the-art special effects, though "Beast" sports the best with the handiwork of the legendary Ray Harryhausen on his first "solo" project.
4) The "monsters" in both films were the result of atomic bomb testing, a plot device stemmed from the fear fostered in many following the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
5) Both films have the necessary female "expert" to "equal things out, Joan Weldon ("Them!") and Paula Raymond ("Beast"). Weldon even gets to do the required scream when saved from the marauding ant hordes.

What's fun about both is that viewers get to see some novice performers who would later make their mark on television or the big screen. "Them!" stars future-Matt-Dillon James Arness and in supporting roles future-Davy-Crockett-and-Daniel Boone Fess Parker as well as Leonard Nimoy would would later don pointed eyes as the legendary Mr. Spock. ""Beast" has future movie star Lee Van Cleef as a marksman that brings down the monster.

Still-going-strong-at-87 character actor William Schallert has a small part in "Them!", also.

The picture and sound is very good for films that are fifty-plus years old.

The extras include a fascinating conversation between Harryhausen and longtime friend Ray Bradbury whose "The Fog" was the inspiration for "Beast."

The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms / Them! (Double Feature) Feature

  • Humanity has split the atom, unleashing a new era of science - an era that would also unleash monstrous celluloid rampages. An A-bomb test in the Arctic awakens The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, and it makes New York City its stomping ground in the movie (based on a story by Ray Bradbury) that launched a string of Atomic Age creature features. One of the best of those cautionary yarns is Them! Radiat

The Terminator [UMD for PSP]

The Terminator [UMD for PSP] Review

The Terminator [UMD for PSP] Overview

This is the film that cemented Schwarzenegger's spot in the action-brawn firmament, and it was well deserved. He's chilling as the futuristic cyborg who kills without fear, without love, without mercy. James Cameron's story and direction are pared to the bone and all the more creepy. But don't overlook the contributions of Linda Hamilton, who more than holds her own as the Terminator's would-be victim, Sarah Connor--thus creating, along with Sigourney Weaver in Alien, a new generation of rugged, clear-thinking female action stars. It's surprising how well this film holds up, and how its minimalist, malevolent violence is actually way scarier than that of its far more expensive, more effects-laden sequel. --Anne Hurley

The Terminator [UMD for PSP] Specifications

How to choose the best golf clubs for your game

Wilson, Callaway, Titleist, Adams, King Cobra, Yonex, Ping, Taylor Made, Mizuno, and Spaulding are all golf brand reputation. Decide as early or even a professional golfer, trying to buy some golf club set, but can often feel like a stab in the dark. In a society that increases the brand awareness will be many of us trying to buy only what everyone seems to think. A selection of golf clubs per se, but is something thatshould not be without a clear idea of what types are available and that the specific use of each club. With a golf club correctly and can be observed much you improve your game even more important points to choosing the right lie and the right tree, the flexibility of the shaft flex of the elbow or flex the association is known. If you're a powerful swinger, you have more control with less bend. Beginners and less powerful swingers better with more flexibility.

If're new to the game of golf, is the first thing you need a basic set of golf clubs. A basic set consists of iron, putters, wedges and drivers, and although most non-golfers do not believe any type of association is to improve the speed of your swing and help you correct errors on your game by the right kind of golf club is essential and will make the learning process faster and easier. The first thing to consider when choosing a set of golf clubs is your basic skillsLevel. Basically there are three levels, including the ability: low handicaps, disabilities and handicaps in half lengthwise.

If you are a low handicap golfer, you usually get less than ten strokes over par Low-handicap should take at least one fairway wood and driver, and lower iron and at least 3 wedges, a pitching wedge, sand wedge and either a lob wedge or approach wedge. A mid-handicap players in the 11-20 handicap range should add a 7-wood or even a 9-wood to their bag.The fairway woods are a lot better control and consistency than the long irons. Mid-handicap should be based on the 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. irons and even wedges recommended above. High-handicap are new to the game or simply not mastered the basics and usually shoots over 100. E 'strongly recommended that the High Handicap using the 3-wood for the tea and add 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.-wood. The corners were the same as proposed for the low and middle handicap.

Today, is a common consensus that the most important club you can have in your golf bag is a hybrid. Many players have used this club to replace the three iron. Tour players have folded at this club. Check hybrids that are dominated by TaylorMade Rescue Mid (which continues to market and is packaged in bags on the tour more than any other hybrid found), the Nike CPR, and Ben Hogan CFT. The hybrid is a club of players who have a good speed for the head of the association, but it also creates favorablemust be the path in the long irons. The low center of gravity in this club to higher shots while a short shaft will improve control and accuracy.

Drivers and woods are probably the most important club in the bag and everybody loves it. Used especially for longer shots, drivers are usually the first club in the bag on the tee. Some players have confirmed, however, may decide to use a driver from the fairway, they need a little 'more to achieve. A fairway metal or wood is alsoUse off the tee if you need an accurate shot or not as much distance as you would need it, with a driver. This club has become a club used by utilities, which are located in narrow fairways and bunkers in the rough. The most popular drivers on the market today are the Taylormade r7quad TaylorMade R5 dual and the Ping G2.

Fairways are generally regarded as the most reliable golf club and seems to be the favorite, because they show you better than you really are, are prone. Thisis an association that develops slowly, but not necessarily a place in the pockets. A fairway wood usually improves a precision golfer and allows him to loft the ball higher. Some favorites include the Cobra SZ and the Calloway Big Bertha.

Iron is an association that works in any case at the forefront of technology and surprisingly favorable. Although this association is not perfect yet, is there, and most players have improved the game using an iron. These ironStress perimeter weighting, forgiveness and higher. The three chains, which have received the most attention, today, the Ping G2, Calloway Big Bertha and the Calloway Big Bertha Fusion. Often the most overlooked club in the bag are the wedge. This club is a necessity in the bag for all golfers and definitely a good friend to every player who had never been on the track. The Cleveland CG10, Titleist Vokey, and the Cleveland 588 are three of the best. The popularity ofAngle is obvious that in Cleveland and Titleist have over 112 combined wedge options.

Finally, the putter is a club that has high tech, and certainly some of the newer Super Mallets move, appear to include science fiction film. Fortunately, even though the traditional putters are still achieving good performance and remain favorites. The Super Mallet putters always the most attention are the Odyssey 2-ball (White Steel), the ping G2i Craz-E and the TaylorMade RossaMonza / Mezza Monza. Waiting is the old traditional putter G2i Ping Ping JAS, and Yes! Golf C-Groove.

If you have a general understanding of when and why you must use a certain type of club, there are to many choices before they actually make a purchase. Many driving ranges have golf clubs for rent and can be a good idea, a few different clubs before actually try making your purchase. Golf clubs, including major brands such asTitleist, Cleveland and Nike can be very expensive. If you are new to the sport, consider starting with the club, second-hand. If you have a game that should normally be, you can catch a flight.

Option 3: The proof that we landed on Mars in 1962

"Alternative 3" was the final document produced by the renowned "Science Report" Television Anglia in England on 1 April 1977. Less than one hour of TV has given an indication of the speed that the program was a joke.

We believe that the film is 95% wrong, but only 5% of which is the most important story of the 20th Century, and quite rightly. This is the result of people from NASA to Mars. We believe that is a big part of the story alsoTruth.

In addition to film the show on 1 April, said the filmmaker later that the show was a fake. It was at the film's clear that something was wrong, because almost everyone was on the screen a movie actor, not sequences of faith. This is a great disappointment when the list of credits role at the end, and a source of great confusion, if you is really waiting for it all. 1) There is no astronaut named Grodin. 2) There is no television, and the scepter reported Benson is also fantasy. 3) There is no Dr. Gerstein. 4) Yes,"Documentary" was released in June 1977, Anglia Television, which came out for the entire national network in Britain. E 'was called Alternative 3 and was written by David Ambrose and produced by Christopher Miles whose name (the book) for contractual reasons.

The original version of TV, I have developed enormously in the book was in fact a hoax, which was scheduled for transmission over an April Fool. Due to some problems in finding the right network slot, theTransfer has been delayed. The TV program did not caused a huge uproar because viewers do not want to believe it was fiction.

First I believe that was the basic premise that way, especially the manner in which they do not feel the intention of the book, the person concerned as fiction. Soon after publication I realized it was totally wrong.

In fact, the amazing mountains of letters from virtually all regions of the world, including a large number of veryintelligent people in responsible positions, has convinced me that I accidentally stepped in a number of top-secret reality.

Evidence of many of these correspondents is provided to write a serious and totally NON-FICTION sequel.

Unfortunately, a box with most of the letters among the subjects who were secretly traveling almost four years ago was lost when I moved to London, Sydney, Australia, before it to settleNew Zealand.

Was originally published for some time after Alternative 3, I have reason to suspect that my home phone number was intercepted and my contacts who are experienced in the areas they were convinced that certain intelligence agencies have I heard that knew too much.

So, in summary, the book is a fiction based on facts. But I feel now, when I accidentally close a secret truth. I hope this is a help for you and look forward to talking toagain.

With best wishes, Leslie Watkins

Captain Bill Robertson gave a lecture in 1990, made the comments to pictures from NASA, the show is approaching the end of the Alternative 3. And you will see, see and analyze what it really means.

This is the allegedLanding on Mars in 1962 by the Americans. This is the band.

Well, the thing said at the end, he says - Boy, if it is the shell, the happiest day in history. May 22, 1962, are we living on Mars and work.

Now we look at this - I'll show you something interesting. OK Let's break. All right, here you go. Here, we first consider the possibility that made it in Hollywood. If they make in Hollywood, what would be the point of doing thisSecret that people would kill to prevent it is known? They would do it just to ... Why should they have the secret, if made in Hollywood? They want everyone to know and say - Look we landed on Mars! and she has never said that. So what I want as a forgery, and how they can be saved, it is the teacher from outer space, this band, if made in Hollywood to see you. We are therefore their word for it is true. They have not killed enough people, threatened the radio station with the completion of the license - I mean the television with the closing of the license of the program, shooting people who worked there. And came out as the book was banned in America. So know, that all of these indicators developed for a secret conspiracy, we will be like a real band to take, but must be what is the truth to be analyzed.

Take a look at the window to take the picture. This is not type a space ship to Earth. Who has a placecurved surface of the shell and is very thin, as you can see. There are no screws, you know, and all those things that are on board the spacecraft United States and Russia. On the right is enormous. I remember that the first probe is increased. They had little tiny holes in them, such as with bolts, like on a ship. This is the first point I want to see you. Now I would like to see something different here. Below you can see the curves? Ah, you see this - ready to scan, he says. Well look likeWhat happens to the picture. See how it moves slowly? America and Russia has never been a spacecraft landing on the moon, landing on another planet, which could slow down and do it. Watch this: the boat turns slowly. Then it stops - Stand by to go ahead. Watch ... Behold, now I'm back on the landing pattern.

If you do this analysis from the perspective plane, the ship that you Suddenly he stops, turns around, as this state of green fireCV landing. Do you remember anything? You remember the stories of "flying saucers". Go, stop, move a little walk, 'too. All good. What is it? (I've never been that we've seen. Start) OK, we are analyzing.

The see? Every time they should be altered so there is interference on the transmission, transfer or stopped and started again. This interference with a radio frequency is caused by a high intensity electromagneticField. So it is in the stories of UFO sightings, in which the radio people and end the pilots, their compass revolves around this genre. There are also stories written how, steered clear UFOs by electromagnetic fields of high intensity. And if you sent from there to the earth you would expect to be suspended the issue of it he had to change the controls, altitude or path of the saucer, and she does!

And now ... Look again. Now you see how slowlyLeaves. 4 degrees Celsius, 21 km / h wind. 707.7 MB atmospheric pressure. 760 (this is normal), No. 1013 MB. Only 7 / 10 as the Earth. OK, click Next. I want to see what is right. Can not you see that you have done? It is a tower, like a control tower. And there are 1, 2, 3 bearings on the ground, but they are round and appear as a hundred meters in diameter, 30-40 feet or more. 1, 2, 3, and some are. Well, what if youIt has never been before? You could build a base of the landing, if they had never been before? Now, look at that when the soil back to static electricity, because they have placed in the electromagnetic field. To actually see it does not land there, but you can believe that they fall on him or one of them. Right. Look closely. You see? You see, here it is. Stand by for the landing. Let's do it again, so you can see. There are: 1, 2 and 3 ThereBuilding. Well, apparently they are sitting on a buffer type of the building. And now they see the brown very narrowly. Americans ... a sort of mole, a mole. OK, now.

This concealment was, what is the secret of Alternative 3 was, which is still a secret that the Americans go to Mars in 1962 with a radio and a camera, but they were not provided. This is a flying saucer alien. Want to see it again? This is the great secret. This is notwants to know someone. They were just passengers. Guess .... on a flying saucer, you know? The base pads in the near future. Ok.

So I said that it would be a miracle. I took a videotrip on a flying saucer as the first. That's how they work, so you can see from the inside. Did you this trip? That was the great mystery of Alternative 3 The Americans have landed on Mars. They took as passengers on a flying saucer. All this material was intended to cover alternatives 3.

Star Trek - Go, yes

JJ Abrams boldly go where George Lucas was going no more than 20 years, and I am grateful. Finally, someone took a part of my childhood imagination and modernized without unnecessary fluff and fodder for the good of the character merchandising. It is true, I've always been more a fan of Star Wars as a Trekkie. "But having a good eye-popping, adult-friendly Star Trek could, I have to reconsider their position. Star Trek is probably one of the mostand appreciated the film's so-called pop-corn "of the summer, following in the footsteps of Iron Man last year. In order to restart the TV series Gene Roddenberry's original all eroticism, humor, science fiction and the balls very well, without any of fields and stupidity. Believe me, I love the movie Pan, and was ready and willing to have lines like "Spock's ears have more than one point, nerd porn masturbation, but that simply is not true to expand. Forbetter or worse, Star Trek is the new model from what should be blockbuster frakking fun!

I will not give trouble to the ground, which is illogical. I must say that the casting, directing, producing and writing (the impact on the ass!) Some like it on the spot Are-on that Hollywood seems to offer in recent days. I did not expect, really all young actors enjoy a relatively unknown before the resumption of the iconic characters, Sci Fi. Not only the new Kirk (at isextremely presumptuous, but vulnerable Chris Pine), Spock (the wood well, but vulnerable Zachary Quinto), "Bones McCoy (a stoic smolderingly Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoe Saldana one smolderingly hot), Sulu (John Cho, surprisingly severe) and Scotty (Scottish hilarious Simon Pegg) to fill the shoes of the original actors to accept these characters as it gives an update of the starch.

The only moments of potential failure is producing half of the film too much at a rate of two hours, when theScience in the vicinity of the plot suffers fatal disease fi time travel. Abrams, puffed like a director as Captain Kirk is also a captain, seems to our merger with loss of time to enjoy the brain-like rotation of the trip. Fortunately, Star Trek by a free fall and used the time of travel as a means to facilitate the public to the fact that not only restored the Star Trek franchise, can only accept even more necessary.

George Lucas, take a lesson here: On the screen, professionalWriters who care about the actual character on "Space Policy", and a love for humanity, the effects are, what a science-fiction epic real inspiration. Apparently, the student was the master.

Doctor Who: The Mind Robber (Story 45)

Doctor Who: The Mind Robber (Story 45) Review

Since I'm a "Johnny Come Lately" to the Doctor Who series, I wanted to get at least one episode featuring each actor who played the Doctor. And since this story arc includes five episodes, it seemed a good place to view Edward Troughton's Doctor. The first two of these five episodes, I have to say, were a disappointment. In fact, it only really picked up when Doctor Who finally confronted the "villian" face to face (so to speak) in the fourth episode. That's when the whole story arc came alive. Prior to that, Troughton's Doctor struck me as much too timid and cautious. But by the end, it was well worth my time. Now I want to get another episode with Edward Troughton, since one of the Amazon reviews said this was the weakest of the Troughton series.

Movie DVD

Doctor Who: The Mind Robber (Story 45) Specifications

The 1968 Doctor Who serial The Mind Robber is a two-fold blessing, because it's not only one of the more engaging story arcs from the program's second season, but also because it's one of the few shows featuring Patrick Troughton as the Doctor that has remained intact since its original BBC broadcast. The five-part story strands the Doctor and companions Jamie (Frazier Hines) and Zoe (Wendy Padbury) in a strange world populated by characters from fiction, including Rapunzel, Blackbeard the Pirate, and Lemuel Gulliver. Controlling this riot of literary personages is a being called The Master (though not the evil Time Lord from subsequent Who seasons), with whom the Doctor must match wits in order to rescue his friends and save the Earth from a sinister plan. A longtime fan favorite brimming with imagination, visual style (despite its limited budget), and an energetic performance by Troughton, The Mind Robber is a welcome inclusion to the growing collection of Doctor Who on DVD. --Paul Gaita

The Best of Star Trek: The Original Series

The Best of Star Trek: The Original Series Review

This is a great way for anyone who owns the original broadcast shows as a set. CBS/Paramount assembled some really good episodes in the remastered versions. Why bother? Well, let me tell you. The remastered versions are incredibly well done. They include added exterior space shots, plus the Enterprise looks slightly darker in color - making it look more like the color of the ship on Next Generation. PLUS---and this is amazing - the artists who did all the painstaking work on this--did an excellent job adding new shots - like in "Amok Time" - on the remastered version - we see a super wide shot of Capt Kirk, Dr. McCoy and Mr. Spock walk toward the center of the meeting place---it's AMAZING!!! Love it. Plus - when we see the Enterprise shoot her weapons, the weapons are more colorful, more precise and just a heckuva lot cooler. So for anyone hesitating about buying the remastered set--- it's money well spent. Perhaps one has to be a truly truly hard-core Star Trek fan to want the newer versions, or heck, maybe you're thinking only true fans would stick with the originals - but regardless of what you decide, this "Best of" DVD is a cool way to take a peek at what the remastered versions look like. As for it's cost of - please, it's SOOO worth it.

Battlestar Galactica - a masterpiece of modern science fiction

When it announced the first time after years of speculation, there is a new mini-series Battlestar Galactica, sci-fi and TV fans of the genre were not sure if it would be interesting for the commitment. For as expensive as the original TV series had been anything but brilliant. With the production values lovable questionable, the unequal distribution and a very irregular letter was a bit "more than a pleasant diversion for fans of SF lead in Star Wars. A briefexperienced the first run in 1978 was the spectacular bathroom Galactica, 80, was followed by the password is not real. When you first said that would be a remake of the SF uneven on the biggest science-fiction television franchise in all of them, many would have laughed at us.

But we are here. After the mini-series has been promising a new season of "Battlestar Galactica" has become a cult hit, and then an international phenomenon, in each subsequent year in a rownew fans, eager to capture the drama. How the hell did that happen? In addition to producing very high scores on this new vision of Galactica, it had fallen to a great cast, great script and a very nice touch to the classic formula. Things have in my head a little, but it worked and it worked perfectly made.

DVD sales of the series Battlestar Galactica, once again demonstrated the popularity of the show with a contemporary audience, and a reorganization of the original conceptsfirst exhibition Galactica have had enough of modern thinking that the fans are connected. Hats off to the writers and stars of the new Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D. Moore, gave us the definitive science fiction television event of the decade and a new generation of TV-type stars such as Tricia Helfer and Katee Sackhoff, who won the hearts of sci-fi fans around the world.

There is talk of a new film about the original incarnation of "Battlestar Galactica" are based, but it seems terribly productive-cons, taking into account how popular the new version of the series. Why not let the franchise at the end of the new era conclude? Let It End correct. New fans do not want to see on the classic series again, I am more than satisfied with the new model unbelievable.

Despite the Cylons during the rehabilitation of the story has changed a little, and the ramp up the complexity a thousand times, the new "Battlestar Galactica" won legions of new fansfor a franchise many thought long dead, and with extras such as the spin-off project Razor (and other forthcoming films) and the upcoming prequel series Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica story continues in the pantheon of science fiction, long time resonate after the end of the series.

Godzilla [Blu-ray]

Godzilla [Blu-ray] Review

THE MOVIE

I will admit, THIS Godzilla is one of my favorite 'thoughtless entertainment' movies. The kind I watch when I'm exhausted and all I want is to relax with a cocktail or a cup of cappuccino and not worry about world peace or possible cosmic disasters for a while. Sure, it's not the Japanese Godzilla - it's an American movie after all - but I can't see why we shouldn't have our own Godzilla the same way the Japanese can have their own baseball and rock and roll.

I will not do a full critique of the movie - there are hundreds of excellent reviews published already so I am going to be brief. I will only state that I love Godzilla because:

- it has Matthew Broderick (Bueller?)
- it has Jean Reno (The Specialist, The DaVinci Code)
- it has (a lot of) humor
- it has most excellent visual effects, quite impressive even by 2009 standards
- it has one of the better sound tracks in a monster movie

Sure, it's not the Japanese Godzilla but, come to think of it, the Japanese Godzilla has none of the above.

THE BLU-RAY RELEASE

Of course, it's 1080p and it's an easy to notice improvement over the DVD release - I've bought both the VHS and the DVD releases prior to this one. More impressive than the picture is the sound track. The DTS-HD Master Audio it's literally a blast. It will rock your house with the proper sub-woofer.

The extras are mostly those found on the DVD edition but there are a couple of Blu-specific additions.

The Godzilla trivia game is actually fun - multiple-choice where the time it takes to pick the answer is factored into the score. A multi-player option is available for players with an Internet connection. To my surprise, this actually worked and I could play Godzilla trivia online with someone who was trying out this exotic feature at the same time I was.

The Movie-IQ option is another BD-Live powered option. It checks some online database and provides up-to-date information about the movie while watching the movie. I immediately learned, while watching the movie, that Godzilla grossed 0 million and it was released in 1998 and that, since its release in 1954 there have been 28 Godzilla/GOJIRA movies.

BD-Live also facilitated the printing of a ticket for the '2012' movie (up to ). Be VERY careful and do NOT throw away the wrapping. The back of the sticker has a code that, when typed in in a BD-Live session will have Sony email you a PDF that can be printed and becomes a 'ticket' that's valid until Dec. 31 2009.

Finally, the disk - not a second disk - includes a digital copy for the PSP. You first copy it to your PS3 hard drive and then you download it from there to the PSP - it comes with full instructions on how to proceed.

MY RATING

5 stars as a movie and 5 stars as a Blu-ray release. If you happen to own a PS3 and a PSP and you happen to want to watch '2012' before the end of 2009 this is an incredible bargain.

Godzilla [Blu-ray] Specifications

As "gigantic monster reptile attacks New York" movies go, you've got to admit that Godzilla delivers the goods, although its critical drubbing and box-office disappointment were arguably deserved. It's a shameless, uninspired crowd pleaser that's content to serve up familiar action with the advantage of really fantastic special effects, and if you expect nothing more you'll be one among millions of satisfied customers. There's really no other way to approach it--you just have to accept the fact that Independence Day creators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are unapologetic plagiarists, incapable of anything more than mindless spectacle that can play in any cinema in the world without dubbing or subtitles. The whole movie plays out like a series of highlights stolen from previous blockbusters of the 1990s; it's little more than a rehash of the Jurassic Park movies. The derivative script is so trivial that it's unworthy of comment, apart from a few choice laughs and the casting of Michael Lerner as New York's mayor, whose name is Ebert and who closely resembles a certain well-known movie critic. Perhaps that's a clever hint that this movie's essentially critic-proof. It's stupid but it's fun, and for most audiences that's a fitting definition of mainstream Hollywood entertainment. --Jeff Shannon

Communion (Special Collector's Edition)

Communion (Special Collector's Edition) Review

What an absolutely thought-provoking movie... period. Whitley Strieber's euphoric experiences shapes our lives in ways that we could never have imagined. Movies are almost always difficult to be made and expressed in the same way as are books, but the awesome Christopher Walken pieces it together in the most brilliant way. His acting is superb. To see Christopher Walken portray the full range of emotions that overtakes an abductee such as Whitley Striber is to see his greatest acting skills ever!
Make no doubt about it, Communion brings forth to the attention of everybody watching it, the fundamental questions of life that we have all been looking for.

Communion (Special Collector's Edition) Overview

Was author Whitley Strieber telling the truth about extraterrestrial visitations in his bestselling book, Communion? Perhaps no one can really prove or disprove it, making the enigma of Strieber himself more interesting than his allegations. That's precisely the angle taken by this film adaptation, in which Christopher Walken's richly eccentric performance becomes a fascinating portrait of something more important than rumors of alien abduction--that is, human resistance and surrender to transformation. The script does an end run around the deductive process and research Strieber employed in his book to substantiate his claims. Instead, the story concentrates on the impact of those experiences on Strieber's own psyche: the disbelief, the repressed memories, the mounting helplessness and futility as the years go by.

Walken makes it all terribly compelling, from his childlike compliance to the diminutive aliens who turn up in his home at night to an unexpected story climax in which Strieber demystifies the little buggers on his own surprisingly comic terms. The supporting cast is terrific, including Lindsay Crouse as Strieber's concerned wife, Frances Sternhagen as a doctor, and Joel Carlson as Strieber's son. This is not an offering that panders to today's alleged abductees, but rather a study of a sole survivor who finds his peace on his own terms. --Tom Keogh

Communion (Special Collector's Edition) Specifications

It is a great pleasure to introduce this picture I directed in 988 in this new DVD special edition. A truly independent feature, Communion continues to be a controversial film for anyone with a closed mind. At the time it was made, as filmmakers we had to fight for the right to make it ambiguous and agnostic in regard to the issue of an alien presence. Various powerful film companies wanted a straight horror film or an outright affirmation of alien existence which would have undermined an unbiased point of view. The psychological dimensions of Whitley Strieber's extraordinary book upon which the film is based continue to facinate me and the issues raised in the film continue to engage millions. A man approached me at a UFO conference and said, "Your film is a fraud." I replied, "How can you say that?" He answered, "the aliens told me!"

Creative Costume and Uniform Ideas for Your Restaurant Bar or Resort Business

Wherever we look, we see businesses such as restaurants, bars, resorts and casinos, the theme of their uniform style that match the atmosphere of their company. "That's good, but sometimes you might think that the styles are uniform and some" uniform. Of course it is understandable that you will maintain a professional image at all times. You can also feel more creative as you want to reinvent the form and restaurant uniformsConcept.

Example: If you saw the movie "Pulp Fiction", there is a restaurant, the Vincent and Mia go to the beginning of the film, which looks like a fun place to go. This is the Model of the Year 1950 "Rockabilly" era, and if you look closely, at this point, you will see some incredible uniforms "casting" in this fictional restaurant. You would of thought Buddy Holly and Marilyn Monroe look-a-likes as waiters and waitresses? O midget red bellhop uniformFew seats? Note: It is modeled on a former commercial Phillip Morris, as you call him, if he can hear his line leaving the stage: "Call for Phillip Morris!" Now that is creative theming!

For those who want to make a good impression of the most profound fashion statement, on average, try to think experimentally. Here is a list of ideas that many nervous in his fat, or too bold. But they are very original. They should not be too large, or you can modify andperhaps one of them will be thrilled!

Much of the wall ideas for a home business consistent theme:

Gothic - If it is the style or not, the Gothic youth to stay here. Is actually a hand-me-down punk rock era, but in a Victorian atmosphere. Think lots of black, very nervous, and search the web for an idea. The fact is that young people tend to go where they feel understood and accepted. Is this the wayMarket, do you have in mind, the clothing of staff, a bit of 'gothic themselves, you should your brand identity in the culture that these people are currently living Remember in. basket, they are middle-aged adults with a career and a house in the suburbs, one day, and then you'll have a certain loyalty seriously!

Superheroes - OK, had soon slipped a bit. " But I bet only one minutes later, you've seen what I did: Well, what do you expect from an employee who was a super hero?We expect excellent service, the conduct of civility, honor and trust perfect ... Hey! We also have hard workers, they are like superheroes already! It is not difficult to do than you might think to take - you take a uniform standard and add a short cape and a belt of "usefulness" of a medallion or other gimmick, and you're there. They work well for a family on the subject a pizzeria or a place that satisfied, especially for young children.

Cosplay - "Cosplay" is a word (one bag a wordCombination of two other words) play of "costume" and "." It is a subculture in Japan by the treatment as a sign of manga (manga) and anime (cartoons from Asia). Even rarer are issues such as booty watch live Japanese TV fantasy movie or Japanese pop music bands also simple.

The word is often associated with dressing for officials of the restaurant, French. This idea may be crazy, but is currently very fashionable in Chinaand Japan, as shown in the culture of monitoring sites like BoingBoing. Look at a search engine on some issues that have found creative ways to get some ideas. Strangely, it is not intended for children, but adults are, in a culture where cartoons and caricatures not be considered for all children. This would be a great success in a modern, up-to-environment-minute as a university town or a place with many technological culture like Silicon Valley, largely because of his popularity spreadthe Internet.

Should we be worried Something About From Space destroy humanity?

The studio is very important and we need to consider how we live on this trip into space, the biosphere, riding on this "Pale Blue Dot that things outside of our world affect us here on Earth. So we need to think about that comes from outer space, including care of the theories behind the movie Andromeda Strain. And we must be concerned about very different things, like;

Asteroid
Solar Flare
SkipStar
Ripples in space-time --
Black Hole
Cosmic Rays
SO expansion
Fall into the moon there

We saw a lot of science - fiction on television, what would happen if the earth by a giant asteroid, comet or meteorite has been made. We also heard the theories about what killed the dinosaurs. It is, of course, a superior species well adapted and highly developed. Indeedthey were much more suited for living on the surface of the planet that humans are today.

Of course, many would say that the large brain that humans have has enabled them to adapt, modify their own environment, and set up societies and civilizations which protect them from the elements, and the weather. Well, the best they can in the present period, this is true.

Still, our planet is not protected from risks coming from outer space, we are completely vulnerable and our little Biosphere could be easily drilled and destroyed something that happens outside of our world. Some say that if this happens, there is nothing we can do anyway, so we should not insist or worried.

Yes, it is a vision and a common language, but it is really wise, it was not prepared for the inevitable. The probability that something similar is happening in our lives there is probably only slight, but the chances of that happening in the currentthe next million years is more assured. Therefore it is logical to think about these things, so please consider.

Nemesis

Nemesis Review

An Albert Pyun production can threaten the mental stability of even the most diehard B movie fan. This director is a master of cheesy, low budget films loaded with hammy acting, molasses like pacing, and terrible scripts. As far as I know, there are only two Pyun films really worth watching: the early 1980s sword and sandal picture "The Sword and The Sorcerer" and this movie, the 1993 science fiction thriller "Nemesis." Two good movies out of a slew of stinkers doesn't mean I wouldn't watch any of his clunkers, though. If anything, a bad movie always promises to deliver a few laughs. Anyway, Pyun's name is synonymous with junk in B movie circles. Just scan some of the movie review sites on the Internet and laugh out loud at the abrasive comments aimed in Al's direction. The success of "Nemesis" eventually led to several sequels, each a victim of diminishing returns. The first one is a winner worth watching, but still contains plenty of plot holes for the discerning viewer to giggle over.

Los Angeles cop Alex Rain works hard to break up crime rings and terrorist groups. It's the year 2027, and humanity has changed quite a bit in the near future. It appears that technology dominates, with doctors capable of implanting robotic machinery directly into the human body. In 2027, you've got millions of people ambling around the country with implants, many of them more machine than human. The growing numbers and strength of these cyborgs is starting to become a real problem for the rest of humanity. Eventually, some people fed up with the increasingly metallic composition of the population form resistance groups to fight the growing cyborgs. It is Alex Rain's job to help keep the peace, and to bring in these people when they break the law. After all, killing a cyborg is still a crime since most of these creatures still possess a significant percentage of human parts. Many of Alex Rain's fellow police officers have machine implants. Actually, Rain himself has a few parts in him, too. In the future, it is just too difficult to discern who is completely human and who isn't, and it's about to get much harder. After a lengthy opening sequence that shows us how Alex ends up in retirement, the movie starts in earnest.

Rain's old boss, Farnsworth, approaches him about a new mission. The United States and Japan have decided to merge into one country (a process not unusual in the near future, according to the movie). A cyborg that worked with the police rebelled against the system and took some important information about the merger with her to Java, where she is presently hiding out while attempting to contact a terrorist organization named the Hammerheads. Rain, who has a contentious history with this sexy cyborg, must go to Java and kill her in order to retrieve this critical information. Rain reluctantly goes for reasons made obvious in the film, and soon discovers that things are not quite what they seem. It turns out that the mission Farnsworth sent Rain on is merely a cover for a much more important mission involving the fate of the planet, humanity, and the cyborgs. We don't find this out for some time, and until we do, the movie does tend to confuse the viewer. Not to worry, though, as you can content yourself with the bevy of beautiful women wearing tight skirts, some nudity, massive amounts of gunfire, and a healthy dose of bloody special effects. "Nemesis" may well rank as one of the most violent shoot 'em ups made in the last few years. The movie contains elements that reminded me of both "The Terminator" and "The Matrix," although I wouldn't go so far as to say that "Nemesis" serves a bridge between those two movies. I will say that if you love films overflowing with huge guns and a super high body count, you will love this Pyun picture.

The plot zips along at mach speed, but the acting often fails to engage. Lead star Oliver Gruner, a French actor who must have once been on the same "up and coming action star" list as Jean Claude Van Damme, tanks as the tough yet caring cop Alex Rain. I suspect Gruner graduated from the Joe Dallesandro School of acting because his wooden expressions to some extent resemble those of the co-star of "Blood for Dracula" and "Flesh for Frankenstein." The female stars take second fiddle, and are usually on screen to serve as eye candy for the mostly young male audience that would watch a film like this one. At least "Nemesis" gives us the ever reliable Tim Thomerson in the role of Farnsworth, along with late B movie star Brion James as one of Farnsworth's sidekicks. James's pseudo German accent alone makes this movie worth watching. In fact, I doubt I would have even watched this movie if I hadn't known beforehand that Thomerson and James appeared in it.

The DVD gives us several extras, including a trailer and some behind the scenes action about the film. The extras list said there were a few television spots, but when I selected that option, I got more behind the scenes footage. At least the transfer is decent, although it isn't as good as it should be. Colors occasionally look washed out, and there are a few rips on the print. Overall, I give a hearty round of applause to Albert Pyun. It is going to be tougher for me to criticize this guy after watching "Nemesis." The movie not only entertains, it is entertaining enough to watch again. This picture just goes to show that even a hack filmmaker can turn out a great treat every now and again.

Nemesis Overview

In the industrial wasteland just outside of Los Angeles, circa 2027, there's a covert war raging between the cyborgs and the humans. "86.5% is still human," insists superagent Alex (Jean-Claude Van Damme wannabe Olivier Gruner, complete with kickboxing credentials and thick Euro-warble), but as the cyborg conspiracy builds around him he discovers that humanity is more than simply a matter of flesh and blood. Borrowing elements from Blade Runner, The Terminator, Escape from New York, and The Road Warrior, and looking ahead to digital "data couriers" of Johnny Mnemonic, director Albert Pyun turns the sci-fi spy story into an engine for a visceral thrill ride of sleekly designed action sequences driven by a dancing camera and a breakneck editing rhythm. It's a glorious triumph of style over substance, the vigorous pace leaving the story far behind and nimble set pieces belying a tiny budget with ambitious action choreography and impressive displays of property damage. Apart from a few clumsy special effects at the conclusion and the requisite collection of scene-chewing performances, Nemesis is a thoroughly entertaining piece of sci-fi trash, a classic example of cinematic energy overcoming the obstacles of plot. --Sean Axmaker

Bat

Who is the best friend of the vampire?

The bat, of course!

Every time you see a vampire in the film, is of little furry companions accompanied him on his release, surrounded in the night. If a vampire has a quick exit, which has often make one of those too. But what is a vampire and suck the blood from unwilling host? They are evil creatures, hiding in caves and castles blacks? Surprising how little scientistsBats can their ability to find his bloodthirsty habits are useful to mankind.

Imagine a creature with a small head, watchful eyes of blacks and a broken nose, almost like a pig's snout. The animal has big ears, rounded at one end and sharp teeth in a single bite. It has a wingspan of eight inches, with a body soft brown hair and the size of the thumb of a person. It weighs about three ounces. Does long Desmodonitidae rotundus, but prefer to be calledby name every day, the Common Vampire Bat.

Common Vampire Bat lives in Central America and South America, with their cousins, the White-winged vampire and the hairy legged vampire bat. The bat is the only city that wants to eat mammals, birds prefer two. Were made at least six to eight million years ago, with fossils that far.

They love to live in caves, abandoned mines, hollow trees and abandoned buildings in good times. AsMost bats can see, but use echolocation to find their prey. Nine years of life in the wild, they have a child of one year, and nest in large family groups, sleeping on his head.

Time to hunt! Bats are small lead over their burrows at dusk in search of comfortable sleep beef or pork fat in this region. The vampire bats that drink blood for food. They drink about two tablespoons of blood per day, and the need to drink at least every two days, or die of hungerDeath.

Ah, a cow Nice big bed. The vampire falls on the shoulders of cows, and readily penetrates the skin with the incisors Sharp, so that two small holes (like Dracula!). The bat then laps the blood in his mouth with his tongue, nothing so clumsy that suck. Imagine your cat licking a bowl with milk.

Anticoagulants or special chemicals that prevent blood clots from forming, the support of the vampire bat drink enough blood to dry before the blood of animals in a position similar toa mosquito. The bat also has a “numbing” agent, to keep its dinner from waking up and kicking it off!

Scientists are studying the anticoagulants in the vampire bat, and have made a drug called ‘Draculin’ to aid in anticoagulation for cardiac patients. Other scientists are using the compounds to help stroke victims limit the effects of blood clots in the brain.

Unfortunately, the vampire bat is considered a pest because the bat population has grown enormously since tropical Forests were thinned to allow more room for grazing cattle. With the addition of cattle over, he came to fly more. Breeders to kill bats in large numbers, as well as bats eat insects.

Dracula's best friend can be a good friend of humanity, by helping scientists to the fight against heart attacks and strokes. We hope that the people about the true nature of bats, kill small to be informed and not continue to be useful, the ignorance and superstition.

Here's to theVampire, and all the creatures that Go Bump in the Night!

Unidentified Flying Oddball

Unidentified Flying Oddball Review

Based off the Mark Twain novel `A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court', Unidentified Flying Oddball (1979) aka The Spaceman and King Arthur, may not have been one of the more popular live action Disney films of the past, but I liked it for a number of reason which I'll talk about later...the film, written by Don Tait (Hell's Angels '69, The Apple Dumpling Gang), was directed by Russ Mayberry, who primarily worked in the medium of television directing on shows like "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie", "That Girl", "The Brady Bunch", "The Partridge Family", "The Rockford Files", along with many others, but did find time to do a few films, including this one. Starring in the film is Dennis Dugan (The Howling, Problem Child, Happy Gilmore), Sheila White (Confessions from a Holiday Camp), Ron Moody, whom many will recognize as the dastardly character Fagin in the 1968 film Oliver!, and Jim Dale, a fixture in the British `Carry On...' film series. Also appearing is Kenneth More (Sink the Bismarck!), John Le Mesurier (I'm All Right Jack, Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?), Rodney Bewes (Jabberwocky), and Pat Roach, whom you may have never heard of, but surely have seen in any one of his villain roles like in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - he played two roles in that film, one being the big Sherpa in the bar and another as the mechanic/brawler, the character of Lippe (he fought Bond in the health spa) in the James Bond film Never Say Never Again (1983), the chief guard in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), and skeleton masked General Kael in Willow (1988), to name a few.

The story begins as we see a group at NASA discussing a new project featuring a shuttle called Stardust that has the ability to travel faster than any previous ship. There's a bunch of scientific mumbo jumbo presented, but the gooberment officials are reluctant to approve sending humans up in an untested craft (it's an election year), so scientific brain boy Tom Trimble (Dugan) is tasked to build a humanoid robot to pilot the ship, which he does (in his own image), but the robot, named Hermes, was apparently made too human, and is afraid to make the 30 year trip. Trimble, in an effort to convince Hermes that everything will be all right, gets caught in the shuttle during an accidental launch, and both end up in orbit. The ship does what it was designed to do (traveling faster than the speed of light), subsequently travels back in time, and, on returning to Earth, Trimble discovers he's in 6th century England, specifically King Arthur's court at Camelot! Trimble meets a local girl named Alisande (White), and she believes him to be some sort of monster (in his spacesuit), despite his protests. Soon Trimble is captured by the rotter Sir Mordred (Gale), taken to Camelot and sentenced to death. It's around this time Trimble learns of Mordred's treacherous plans to overthrow King Arthur (More), and now must use his intelligence and wits to not only keep himself alive, but also prevent the despicable Mordred and his cronies from their foul machinations through.

First off I just want to say it felt good to watch a family friendly film that doesn't insinuate toilet humor into the story to get laughs...not that I mind that kind of thing, but it seems so much more prevalent nowadays for these types of films, geared towards general audiences, to rely on techniques of the lowest common denominator to try and entertain. As far as the story goes, it was very straightforward, and moved along well. Dugan seemed a decent choice for the role of Trimble (I guess Dean Jones and Kurt Russell, both frequent stars in Disney's mid 60's/early 70's live action pics, were busy on other projects), and he does well presenting pre-MacGyver like character who uses his intelligence to get out of sticky situations. As far as the others, my favorite was Dale as Sir Mordred. He did a wonderful job bringing his character to life, and could have easily been transposed to more serious films with respect to Arthurian legend despite being a bit over the top at times (what good villain isn't?) As far as the character of Merlin, played by Moody...I thought he also did very well, but the way the character was written seemed to go against most of what I think I know in the respect the Merlin here was not a very nice guy...and what was up with his hair? It looked like they shaved the top of Moody's head, giving him a horseshoe hair pattern, leaving a handle-like tuft at the very top....very weird...another character I enjoyed was that of Sir Gawain, played by Le Mesurier. The role wasn't very big, but incorporated a sort of subtle humor (a slight touch of that droll, British humor) that complemented the sequences he appeared in very well. The odd man out was that of King Arthur, played by More. He did all right, but he lacked the majestic qualities I normally associate with the character. It's not like he ruined the movie or anything, but he just seemed a little out of place. The sets and costumes were very good, relaying better than average production values, along with most of the special effects, although there is a sequence with Trimble in a flying rocket chair where the wires are plainly visible, but again, this wasn't something that ruined the film for me. My favorite sequence was the magnetized sword bit and I also liked how, through a good part of the film, Trimble was perceived by the 6th century inhabitants as not so much a dangerous threat, but sort of a pitiful oddity, one that might be better put out of his misery. I'm unsure how kids today, what with their Harry Potters and such, would receive a film like this, but for those of us who grew up in the 70's and 80's, this is a welcome trip back to simpler times.

The widescreen (1.85:1) picture, enhanced for 16 X 9 TVs, looks sharp, but there are some very minor signs of age deterioration in the film (nothing to get too hung up on). The Dolby Digital mono audio comes through clearly, and there are English subtitles available. There are no other special features.

Unidentified Flying Oddball Overview

Mark Twain's wit was oft demonstrated in his short stories and novels, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court certainly qualifies as one of his most popular. The tale's so well-liked that various renditions--including a musical comedy, an animated Bugs Bunny version, and two kid pics--have been turned into films and telefilms (many of which should be considered "inspired by" instead of straight translations). This Disney film takes the basics of Twain's charmer and turns it into the story of a scientist whose twin-looking humanoid will be the first to try out a faster-than-the-speed-of-light rocket ship. When the humanoid becomes afraid, the scientist climbs on board to comfort it and the ship accidentally rockets off--and into King Arthur's Camelot. Dennis Dugan, an underrated comic actor (best remembered as Richie Brockelman introduced on The Rockford Files), is the likable lead, as well as his robotic alter ego. Ron Moody is a wickedly creepy Merlin, Kenneth More is an elegant, if older, King Arthur, and English actress Sheila White (Oliver!) is a sweet Alisande. Despite its 1979 production date, the film has a surprisingly timeless look. Certainly, the low-budget technology can't compare to today's CGI miracles, but this film is more about ingenuity and resourcefulness, and it gets those messages across well. --N.F. Mendoza

Universal Soldier

Universal Soldier Review

I liked the Van Damme movies from the late 80's to mid 90's Universal Soldier was easily 1 of the better Van Damme movies he put out Universal Soldier was a big hit 1992 starred JCVD as Luc Deverux Dolph Lundgren as SGT Andrew Scott & Alley Walker as CNA reporter Veronica Roberts. It has a entertaining plot good characters good soundtrack. Story in 1969 Private Luc Deverux & SGT Scott are in Vietnam they don't get along while Deverux is clearing out a village he discovers what Scott is doing we learn that Scott is a psycho he has killed members of the platoon & killed a Vietnamese civilians & Deverux just wants to go home Scott accuses him of treason while Deverux is trying to escape with a Vietnamese woman Scott shoots him in the leg & tosses a grenade at the woman killing her Deverux & Scott kill each other at the same time. 25 years later they have been kept alive all there memories cleared as part of the Universal Soldier program. There's a hostage situation at the Hoover Dam the UNI SOL's are sent in

Universal Soldier Overview

Before they made a mountain of money as the creators of Independence Day and Godzilla, director Roland Emmerich and screenwriter Dean Devlin teamed up for this action flick disguised as a science fiction thriller. Muscle hunks Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren play embattled Vietnam soldiers who killed each other in combat and are revived 25 years later as semi-android "UniSols" in a high-tech army of the near future. Their memories were supposedly wiped clean, but flashbacks occur to remind them of their bitter hatred (Lundgren committed wartime atrocities; Van Damme had tried to stop him), and the warriors resume their tenacious battle while a journalist (Ally Walker) uncovers the truth about the secret UniSol program. With energy to spare, the standard action sequences are adequate for anyone with a short attention span. And besides, with Van Damme and Lundgren in the lead roles, who needs dialogue? --Jeff Shannon
